Good job Court Wizard.
On your Dutches it appears that the torque tube on the r/end is the
original that came with the chevette . Strange , cause my Dutches has
a fabricated piece made by Classic Roadsters in its place . I guess they
had a change in their set up some time in their production run .
I think mine was manufactured in 1988 .
AL .April 29, 2010 at 11:55 pm #240938Love and admire the work you have done on the TD but have to agree
with MR. Pink MG . If you took that Photo of the yoke to any Professional
Mechanic that had been around for a while would tell you that your asking for trouble . The front U/joint being so far away from the Transmission tail shaft and housing bushing could cause a hell of a load on the extension housing . I’ve seen the results and it ain’t pretty .
Just an old mechanic throwing my two cents in
AL .March 13, 2010 at 6:25 pm #240752Looks like a surefire way of preventing the doors from popping open .
The way I see it , The latch is trapped between the door panel and the inside door release handle preventing the door from being opened unintentionally . Also , is it just the VW powered TD’s having this problem maybe due to the floor pan flexing (Steel body shell missing). Just a thought .
Al.November 5, 2009 at 2:15 pm #239949Hey DickH
The tool you need is a J25477 and there is one on Ebay for 12 dollar . Wish my problems were that easy Ha! Ha!
Good luck Al http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KENT-MOORE-J-25477-VALVE-SPRI NG-COMPRESSOR_W0QQitemZ220494850976QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ2009 1014?IMSfp=TL0910141610005r8793September 22, 2009 at 10:41 am #239239Mel
Just took a look at your wheels in the photo gallery. They are different to mine and look good. I have the ones that sit proud of the wheel and look like they were made by the Safeway shopping cart company.
AlSeptember 21, 2009 at 11:03 pm #239236Hey Ringo
I thought I read somewhere that wires were an option on TD’s in 52 .
Craigar’s on a TD. Probably look good on the strip with the back end jacked and a big lump up front.
Have fun while the sun still shines Al.September 20, 2009 at 5:37 pm #239234Hey CoffeyD
Don’t apologize for sharing your views and opinions as that is what forums and discussions are for. The word Replica in my dictionary states:- copy and or reproduction and you sure did not see any TD’s out of Abingdon with those “cheap and tacky” baskets on the wheels.
As soon as I have some spare cash in the bank I’m going to give MG Magic a call so I too can pull those ugly things off my TD.
We all own and drive TD replicas for a lot of different reasons and one high on the list is getting home at night under it’s own power.
That’s my two cents
Al.
Also, Does anybody have any pics of the MG Magic wheels in question .March 11, 2009 at 2:22 pm #238402Hi Dick
If you pop the oil filter off ,you will be able to see it and get a wrench on it. Had the same prob a month ago.
Good luckJanuary 3, 2009 at 11:19 pm #238069Thanks for your info Hawk521
I’m into a redo of a twenty year old unfinished zero mile chevY TD.
It’ been quite an eye opener to find what some people call finished.
I’ll give that MG Magic a call and see if they have a quick fix.
Thanks again, ALJanuary 3, 2009 at 2:42 pm #238067Thanks for the reply Larry
I was hoping somebody had been down this road before and perhaps I would not have to resort to butchering a set of chevy blades and arms to fit the TD. May be the only route ?. Who knows ?.January 3, 2009 at 11:05 am #238065Hi Larry
I think I have the exception to the rule as this assembly has been modified to fit the location . The connecting rod between the two pivot posts has been cut and rejoined in a crude fashion (Two small hose clamps holding the connecting rod together) Plus the electrical connector fits perfectly with the chevette wiper switch in the Chevy steering column . -
