The strap is actually one of the shoulder belts from the donor VW. One end you can see, riveted to the firewall. The other end is screwed to a support channel that runs the center length of the hood.
You have to be careful on windy days. The right gust can catch the hood and blow it closed (or down onto your head). -

Just one comment on above, the “box” covering the steering column (4th and 5th pictures) is not in the Classic Roadsters assembly manual. I added it.
I didn’t like the idea of a bare steering column running thrugh a packed trunk. It’s simply two pieces of plywood, cut to follow the angles of the trunk floor and sides, with an additional “le… -

Well, then I guess my guess was wrong.
I built my TDr from a kit and had the blue Duchess badge (until I replaced it with an MG TD badge). Not sure what made a Grand Duchess “grand.” -

Nice badge.Funny…I believe if you ordered a kit, you received a “Duchess” emblem, chrome with blue enameled background. If you ordered a turnkey car, it came with the “Grand Duchess” emblem pictured above.

I confess I have not relocated in on my TDr. And I don’t spend much time worrying about it either. I understand the risk. And I have heard of a couple fires. But it is a fact that Beetles were not burning to the ground on a regular basis. I know…I’m blowing in the wind. 😉
And of course my factory built Intermeccanica Roadster had the fi… -

There’s lots of history behind it. But at some point Frank Devine had to upgrade the forum software. Some functionality broke when he did that.
Among the broken bits was the ability to directly upload pictures into your folder in the photo gallery.
The workaround is not bad, just add pictures to a post (which is basically follows the same steps… -

Even though millions of VW’s ran for millions of miles with the plastic filter in the stock location, the Speedster guys swear you don’t want the fuel filter hanging over a hot engine. Most move it to j… -

Didn’t even realize that link was there.
The “Frank” in the email link is Frank Devine. He created the site but has not been involved for quite some time. And obviously the frank at tdreplica dot com address is no longer acive.Easiest way to get pictures into the gallery is to upload the pictures to a post. As you do that, the pics get added t… -

What do you mean by “sending pictures”?Are you getting this error when you try to upload pictures? Or when you try to add them to a post? -

I would hate to see an original cut up to recreate any of these. But it would be a cool TDr project! And make sure you click through the link Ray posted. I thought it was just artwork. But the owner of the website is working on converting a TC per the artwork.

Ed,What was the EPA rating for the car the engine came out of? Temper that number a bit, since real world never matches the EPA numbers. And then there are the aero vs light weight factors. Yup, Bridget is probably a thousand pounds or more lighter than the donor car. But you also have those big air dams up front (the fenders) and a flat wind…[Read more]
