Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Repro shift knob in the forum General Discussion 4 weeks, 1 day ago
Ditto what Ed said.
I had a wooden shifter knob with the correct pattern for a VW. But that was my choice.
reality is it was rarely oriented correctly. The entire shifter tends to turn in the socket that connects it to the shift rod in the tunnel.

Stefan,
You mentioned being unsure about the year of your VW donor.
The VW VIN is stamped into the center tunnel, right next to the access panel for the shift rod to transaxle coupling (under you seat!)
Once you have the VIN, look it up here: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php
As the engine may not have come from…[Read more]

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Part Availability in the forum VW Based Kits 4 weeks, 1 day ago
Stefan,
Kit part supplies are limited. Body parts almost non-existent. Various trim and roof/side curtains for FiberFab cars are available from MG Magic. https://mgmagicclassicmotorparts.com/
Some trim pieces are reproduction TD parts. Headlight shells, door handles, stuff like that. Moss Motors is a good place to turn.…[Read more]

Steve,
The various replicas are slightly different, but generally, fold each side up and over the roof so the width is narrow than the roof bars, the wrap the roof around the two bars.
The Classic Roadsters Ltd. Duchess manual has specific instructions for their car. The manual is in the library. Scroll down to the 25th page of this…[Read more]

John,
Sorry to say, other than a couple old advertisements, I don’t have much info on the Baron. Hopefully others here may be able to help!

Scott,
The Classic Roadsters Ltd Duchess VW manual is already in the library.
If the one you found is for a front engine Duchess, we could def use that one!

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Dual Carbs on a VW Dutchess Kit in the forum VW Based Kits 5 months, 1 week ago
I did indeed have dual carbs on my Classic Roadsters Ltd. Duchess. But memory fails me as to what they are; and I no longer own the car.
Single barrel, fitment under the Duchess engine cover was no problem.

Stephen,
It will help the sale if you know the kit manufacturer. Major body parts are not interchangeable between kits.

Hi Barbara
Welcome!
Not familiar with any mechanics in your area.
Do you know the manufacturer of your TDr? There are manuals from many companies in the web site Library. And there are a full set of electric schematics under the Classic Roadsters Ltd section.

Yes, removing the crank pulley should give you enough room. Was easier for me to shape the fiberglass panel.

Shifting the “brine?”
Egad!Shifting the engine. 🙄

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Engine Removal in the forum General Discussion 7 months, 1 week ago
Warren
Generally yes. But you’ll find the rear apron likely gets in the way of shifting the brine back to disengage from the transaxle.
I solved that by cutting the apron back to match the “outline” of the crankshaft pulley.
Other than that, same process.

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic What do you think is the best VW replica in the forum MGTD Kit Cars 8 months, 1 week ago
One caveat to what Bill wrote, VWs through 1968 1/2 had swing axle rear suspensions. Independent rear suspension was introduced midway through the 1968 model year.
Make sure the donor car under the TDr you buy has the IRS.
Manufacturers (and builders/owners) have used varying approaches to softening the front suspension also, from adding weight…[Read more]

We are working on this.
Most of the articles are there. But the links are broken in these three categories: Ignition, Carburetor & Fuel, and Transmission and Drive
