June 17, 2011 at 3:54 pm #245072I did post on samba. I’m going to take the car to a friend this weekend.
June 14, 2011 at 10:29 pm #245070I think I am going to take it to a friend and see what he can figure out. Talked to one guy who charges 65 an hour. Not going to happen! Wrong economy! I’ll keep on it anyway and thanks to all of you for your help!
June 14, 2011 at 4:17 pm #245068Not fixed!!! Dual Empi 34’s. Flamethrower 009 no vacum advance. I set the timing at 0 tds and it ran terrible. Now I adjust it where it sounds right. This engine is not factory and appears to an after market mill or 75 and up FI but not sure. When I push the pedal down the carbs throttle are maxed. The fuel system is clean and I watched the fuel flow into each carb.
June 14, 2011 at 4:02 pm #244907Im not proud of it yet. I am starting to feel it may be pic worthy!
June 9, 2011 at 2:15 pm #245064I have new dual carbs and new heavy duty throttle cable with housing. I adjusted the fuel regulator up to alow more fuel in. no change.
June 9, 2011 at 1:59 pm #245062I just ordered a new electronic dist. All the rest have been checked and adjusted.
June 9, 2011 at 12:15 pm #245060Is it possible the 009 dist. is not advancing causing it to flatten out at 55?
June 8, 2011 at 9:45 pm #245059most of it is new. will be going over it tomarrow.
June 3, 2011 at 6:46 pm #244935Hey thanks everyone for the info!
May 31, 2011 at 7:51 pm #244905OK top is holding so far. I used a metal bar from cyclone fence as well as adjusting the top.
May 31, 2011 at 10:33 am #244904He was used as a CI then they had evidence. At least enough to make a charge. Guess his info was more valuble to them. Glad no one was hurt! Like the story!
May 30, 2011 at 7:58 pm #244900The plexi came with the top but my feeling is that its too flimsy. I will try the aluminum though. I just finished adjusting the top and now I have to move the screw snaps. I’m going to be filling hole forever. I will drive it tomorrow and see what happens.
May 30, 2011 at 3:27 pm #244897The front edge has a plexiglass insert but the top is loose above my head. I will look at the bow for adjustments and see what happens. Thank you!
May 11, 2010 at 10:43 pm #240824Thank You for the info.
May 11, 2010 at 3:35 pm #240822Would those side mirrors fit my fiberfab windshield frame? If so where should I get them?
April 23, 2010 at 12:28 pm #241129Wiper blades and arms worked out great.
April 20, 2010 at 5:18 pm #241127Murphy! Thank you. Going to the parts store tomarrow.
April 20, 2010 at 8:20 am #241090Good job on the shift rod. Transmissions in the vw are pretty durable and a used one can be found cheep with a little looking. You could also put yours in the shop. That should be cheep to rebuild.
February 20, 2010 at 2:53 pm #240669No luck yet. I have a friend thats going to take a look at the car to see if he can solve my delima.
February 20, 2010 at 7:29 am #240668Thanks Dan.
February 7, 2010 at 2:14 pm #240634I found the problem. A loose nut behind the steering wheel
. Actually I had the reverse light wire on the negative side and it belongs on the positive side. Also the points were bad. I also think I killed the electronic ignition.
December 4, 2009 at 2:53 pm #240150Ground bar is installed. Check this. Inside indicators flash correctly outside does not flash. Switch two wires and the outside flashes and the outside does not. Getting closer!
December 3, 2009 at 5:31 pm #240148Update: Found out the body of the turnsignal switch has to be grounded. The steering column does not have a ground but it will soon. Bad thing is the turn signal switch does not stop flashing and the lights do not light up. I bought a ground bar and will install it next. The fun has begun!
November 30, 2009 at 8:24 pm #240147Thanks Greg. I will install a ground bar as suggested. I’ve already identified each individual wire and I’m going to eliminate some of the wires from the switch as sugjested by Murphy. I’ll see what happens then.
