    Hey Bob, I too own a VW/Daytona.

Yeah, about those louvres, do you have metal side panels?  They look to be stamped and real.  Also, it appears that you have vertical posts on the outer top edges of your windshield ala original MG for securing the leading edge of your top.  Unusual except on a BCW (and possibly Allison).  Also, there appears to…[Read more]

  • When I go to Jack’s house to work on his TDr, I dress up.  I grew up in and around garages and workshops and I NEVER saw anything like Jacks…..perhaps an operating room?  It’s quite a different experience, for me, not getting dirty when laying on the floor under his car.

This TDr build will look absolutely new, with paint in the most remote a…[Read more]

  • Ed’s right.  Those multi-tools are great.  I bought mine for about $20 at Harbor Freight and yes it is a POS but it gets in and works where everything else fails.  When it quits, I’ll give it a nice burial and buy another Harbor Freight one.

I have never really had any luck with Goof-Off.  WD40 seems to work just as good for me.

  • True.  The tub and the doors were wood “framed”.  Wood floors also as I remember (might be wrong here – I sold my TF-1500 35 years ago)

  • Bill, assuming that you can actuate the clutch disk (disengage) manually with a long bar or a big wrench applied directly to the arm on the bell housing, can we assume that there is no wasted motion of the pedal and you have the correct pairing of the master and slave cylinders?

    We’re pulling for you Bill.

    “Roy,
I got the same from Bill re: Sunday.  So Saturday it’ll be.
We just needed a break.  It’s the same folks every year doing all the hard work and we got indications from a number of our sponsors that they planned to take a short break from A&A as well, so that made the decision easier.
We’ll be back in force next year and sincerely hope yo…

Maybe I’ll see you guys in 18 months.

The news of cancellation of the Air & Auto show took me by surprise.  I am re-thinking Carlisle.  But, I’m too darn old to make new friends, so could I drive my Classic Mini and crash your party?  Last year there was only ONE Classic Mini….and he left early.

(I’m hoping to have my TDr sold by the time of the event.)

I’m still trying to work ou…[Read more]

You may have heard that this year’s (2018) Auto & Air Show in Virginia Beach was cancelled for reasons not given.  I responded to an email from one of the organizers:
    George,
    >
    > Sorry to hear:

    > I’ve been in somewhat of a funk since reading of the cancellation of this
year’s show. It was not “just” a show for we of the TDr club, but…[Read more]

  • I’m with Paul & Ed, BUT holy mackerel, he’s got a V8 crammed in under the bonnet.  I really can’t figure out a good place for the oil cooler.  ???

  • …or Sunbeam Tiger

  • Bill, are you going to have to remove the side panels to change the spark plugs?  ….and can you (on your installation) remove the side panels without removing the fenders?

  • Bill,

    Very impressive!

Well, I’m still kickin’….and am still working on old cars, but vewy vewy slowly.

It’s doubtful, but, after 5 years at Carlisle,  if I see you guys, it’s be sans TDr.

PS:  Downsizing!  I am going to be selling my TDr this spring.  I quit using mine because I couldn’t figure out anything else to do to it.  If you run into anybody up there who…[Read more]

  • Yet again I have to agree with Paul.  I spent more than a little time on “Diesel submarines” which properly are called “diesel-electric” submarines where our lives depended upon two huge banks of lead acid batteries much like in an automobile except on a very large scale.

    There is no magic wand.

Replace the battery and be happy.

  • Paul is right on.  Unfortunately, new seats is the way to go.

  • Well, it appears that you have eliminated all the usual suspects.  So let me go to the less than obvious.  I once had a Ranger pickup that did the same thing and it was due to a clogged exhaust.  In my case, a clogged catalytic converter which i doubt you have….just a thought.

Also, the same symptoms of a bad choke?

  • Yes but, go look under the Christmas tree.  You should have one there.

(Some bicycle pumps would also work.)

  • Since you have to remove the shocks anyway to get the coil-overs off, why not try the air shocks.  Probably cost less than $150 for both.

  • Vicenc, have you really gained that much weight?

The most elegant and correct way to fix this requires removal of the tub and adjusting the rear torsion bars…..a big job.

Alternatively, you could install air shock absorbers in the rear.  By not connecting the two shocks together, you would have independent control of them and could put more…[Read more]
