Don’t those XJ motors bolt to Chevy transmissions? I thought that is how all those 350s got into all those XJ cars.
If it is so, then easy: early style (small) Chebby bell housing with a 10.4-inch clutch and pressure plate. Behind that a T-5 out of an old Camaro or Mustang. Your only trouble now is the flywheel/starter combo….UPDATE: Wrong again.… -

Not sure there would be enough length for a Jag. Lotus engines are some of my favorites. 4 cyl.Probably the cheapest way to get one of them is to buy a rusted out Jensen Healey. Nice (albeit a 4 speed) gearbox also.

Didn’t we talk about this before? Count yourself lucky and buy a new tank. Please cut no corners on brakes or gas.

I’d say $1000 or $1200 could work for both of you. You could go nuts and put a Jag engine in it. That’d impress them down at the cruise in.

edward ericson replied to the topic New Shifter in the forum VW Based Kits 10 years, 10 months ago
Hope so, Jack!
No, this shifter is lift the shift knob to get reverse. You actually are lifting the whole lever. It’s like the old Chevy/Hurst shifters. The feel of the gear selection is much like your shifter, in terms of positive feel, lack of “slop,” etc. It’s not identical though we’d have to test side-by-side to discern the… -

Hey Ed,
I assume that a knob goes on top of the shaft??? And that the knob presses down to unlock reverse???Other than not having the 3 – 4 bias, how does this shifter compare to my shifter in Emma? (an EMPI short, Trigger shifter)?I’m sorry we ran out of time at Carlisle and I did not get to try driving your TD — maybe when we get to Va Be… -

If I weren’t all the way out here where you’re headed I’d seriously consider.

I’d guess 500-600 lbs, but just a guess. Anyone got their old CMC bill of lading?

Paul…how long we been friends? I can’t believe you’d be so cold like that. And speaking for all the other guys too. How do YOU KNOW no one wants to tickle me keister?

Thanks, Roy. I will examine caliper shimming.
UPDATE: Well tickle my ass and call me Nancy. Page 2 of these instructions did not come in the box I bought–nor the shims. Page 1? That is exactly what I have.Looks like I will be in business again sooner than I imagined.Update to the update: The dang shims are what I took to be the washers. I had… -

Ed, I read somewhere that you had to shim the calipers to get the best fit. So, I installed and shimmed mine with washers under the caliper as you did (temporarily). No problems yet in 2 yrs and 2500 miles. As for my caliper rebuild: I am a great one for spending 2 days fiddling around with something just so I don’t have to buy a $3.…[Read more]

So continuing my scientific method, after looking at the stuck caliper a minute, I had the idea to shim it.
I took the washers from under the bolts that hold the caliper to the mounting pointon the brake backer, and I put those washers between the caliper and said mounting point. The wheel spun freely now. So I test-drove it to see how it would do.… -

Ed, I had to rebuild my new calipers when I put on discs. I don’t think their QC is very good.

I hope the frame head and the Napoleon hat are in tact and the problem is just with the frame head bottom plate and a little rust on the floor pan edges. I’ll know more once I get the bottom plate off and get a closer look. Also, Royal is home from his crusade to the mountains of New York so I should be able to get him to put a second set of e…[Read more]
