Jack,Happy you finally figured it out – always a big relief when you know what is wrong and can move forward.My opinion – Dual Kadrons w/ a vaccum advance dist. I have a 1641 and installed the set up about 5 years ago and adjusted – still going strong – about 15,000 miles now w/ no adjustments.

That will be a nice run – coming over the 301 bridge is fun – if I can pull this off I will be meeting you guys someplace south – maybe 301 and 17? Need to take a look at a map etc. I give myself 50/50 chance at this point. 

 Not out yet – It just might be a last minute decision

Sorry Roy – I guess I am not cool – I always kind of liked those on a hot rod – might look good if the pipes stick out straight – most VW’s don’t unless using the standard exhaust.

 Glad you got it going – I did no work today – back not up to it – need to order a gland nut and tranny seal – have the rest.Will work on it slowly this week – hope to have the new tran installed before the parts come and then just just install everything – maybe done by Saturday night.

 Roy,What advise do you need? My tear out will begin this morning – most important thing – match your throw  out bearing and pressure plate to the transmission ( by the year ) – the rest will work out if I remember correctly. 

 Spent a few minutes today to remove the cable at the rear ( cable looks good ) and started playing w/ the clutch arm – it moves all over the place and w/ no resistance once I removed the return spring.Seems very loose and slides back and forth as well.  Try taking out your dip stick right after a long run ( hot engine ) and shoot the stick w/ a temp senser gun and see what you have.

 I will replace the cable since it has been in there for 10 plus years or more but don’t think the cable is the problem – it pulls the arm forward and little if any resistance – to me I don’t think it would pull the arm forward if broken and still have resistance. i don’t think the bearing is being pushed out –   hence my thought of broken forks -…[Read more]

 You could also consider doing the seat fix I posted someplace on this site – lowered my sitting high about 3-4″and much more comfortable ( No more DBS )
