Welcome…a long time ago I rebuilt my 71 VW engine with the help of the VW Service and Repair Manual by Clymer Publications (don’t know if it is still avail.) and it worked out fine. As Roy pointed out the engine is easy to work on..just follow the steps. Also, Hot VW’s Mag published a book called All About Performance VW engines (I think it is…[Read more]

sreynolds replied to the topic Door Panel Assembly Help in the forum General Discussion 11 years, 3 months ago
Allen, you could also replace the “cardboard” with luan plywood (about 3/16″) from Lowes/Home Depot. It is more substantial than the cardboard. I used it on the door panels for my Cobra and was going to use it as a replacement on my TDr, but it was too much of a PIA to get the covering off the existing panel so gave it up and left them as is.Sam

Kent, I agree that the 15″ looks a little better than the 13.5 wheel and I really like the looks of the wheel with the rivets. One more question, what is the actual diameter of the wheel? I know some are listed as 15″ but are actually 14+” so just interested in what the actual dia. is. Thanks.Sam

I finally finished another project on my TDr and am finally getting back to installing the vac. adv. distr. that Ed sent me, but before I did the new distr. install I found a bad spark plug wire, so bought new wires and distr. cap and was going to try the replacement parts on the mech. adv. distr. before the change over to the vac. adv. distr.…[Read more]

Kent, I also am looking at the FS 15″ steering wheel. Please post a pic when you get yours and let us know how it works from the driver’s clearance, turning, etc. perspective. Thanks.Sam

sreynolds replied to the topic Steering box access/adjustment in the forum VW Based Kits 11 years, 3 months ago
Rocky, my car must have had a similar problem. The PO cut an access hole above the steering box and then covered it with a stainless steel plate with a hole in it to get at the adj. screw/nut. What you mentioned with the hole and plug should work ok as well. Sam

Thanks. This is probably it. I’ll have to read it all the way thru, but I did note a couple of links in it that appear to have the detail I’m looking for, but when I clicked on them the message says it can’t be displayed. Sam

I think (I may be wrong) I saw somewhere in one of the threads a step by step process for removing the small leaves to lower/soften the front end, but I can’t seem to find it. Can somebody steer me to it?Sam

We can probably go on forever about today’s lack of education. My pet problem is that most younger people can’t make change without the help of the computer and just try to give them an extra few pennies (example the bill is $9.23 so I give them $10.03) so I can get rid of them and they look at you like you have two heads and try to give you the…[Read more]

Bought a bottle of the speed demon wax detailer and really like the stuff. Used it on my truck and the wife’s Tahoe and it works great with little effort. I think I’ll get a bottle of the barrier wax as well. Got it a WalMart as well.Sam

I was looking at my car and I think I’ll need to drop the front some, but it looks like that if I remove all the small leaves and it drops it 2″ it might be too much. Has anybody just removed some of the small leaves to get a smaller drop and if so how many and how much drop did you get?Sam

Ok, for some reason my text didn’t post, so here it is again. I really like the FS wheel with the rivets you first posted from Amazon. Of the pics you posted above of the wheels on your TDr, I like Pic #3 best.Sam
