Ok guys and gals.
I’ve seen a bunch of new folks from the NY/NJ area. And others not that much further away. You all…and I mean all…need to be in Carlisle Pennsylvania on May 15, 16 and 17 for the Carlisle Production Import – Kit/Replicar Nationals.
And don’t tell me it’s too far. I’ve driven my VW based Duchess from NJ to Indianapolis and from NJ to Cincinnatti to join with other kit car fans. So you can certainly make it to central PA! 🙂
This is the biggest east coast kit car show of the year. And it would be great to see a bunch of MG kits on the field.
We have an in with the Speedster Owners Group, who each year gather dozens of Speedster and Spyder replicas for this show. so we can help with hotel reservations and Friday & Saturday dinner. But rooms go fast, so you gotta decide early!

January 27, 2009 at 10:51 pm #238171Sorry, but I have to respond to my own posting to claim ten seconds of fame.
When you click through the Carlisle Productions page to the Import – Kit/Replica page, that’s me behind the wheel of a friend’s silver Spyder.
What an awesome freakin’ car. But I have to tell the story in person. So…come to Carlisle.

I should be there again – depends on my job, but hope it all works out. I have a spot in the hotel so it should be a good time.

March 28, 2009 at 7:44 pm #238176Paul,
You have NO IDEA how much I would love to jump in the TD replica and head on down to Carlisle in May. Unfortunately the economy has bit me on the back side and I have to focus on the INCOME side of the equation this year.
However, I’m starting a 2010, Carlisle or Bust campaign!

As much as it pains me I will be in California for meeting that weekend. I would much rather be in Carlisle but I still have to work.

Is that you in the car with the 36 on the hood? AWESOME!
Across from you on that page is the Datsun Roadster. Looks just like the one I have except my fogs are round and my rust is visible. I have the same hardtop.
Here is the page I was on:
March 30, 2009 at 10:57 pm #238179Yeah. It’s me, the good lookin’ bald guy behind the wheel.
Funny, it’s not even my car.
The car was built by Cory (I forget his last name but will find out). Cory is very active
with the Speedster Owners On-line group. Underneath it’s got a custom
built frame, probably weighs in at about 1200 pounds. Monster HP from a VW engine (I’ll get detailsl and update the post). From where I sit, it’s barely streetable. It really is set up
for the track. Handles like a go-kart. No top. No heat. Unpadded racing
buckets. But that doesn’t stop Cory. He drove it from central Massachusetts to Carlisle! And through torrential downpours!
Cory received a ton of help from the Speedster group during his build. To show his
appreciation, he shared the car with all of us at Carlisle last year.A Carlisle Productions photographer was obviously around when I
was taking the car out for a drive. I didn’t know it until I saw the
picture on their web site.Great fun!
And Cory is a good guy. He’s a firefighter by trade and was in the Army
Reserves. He asked to be activated so that he could be sent to Iraq. So
that is where he is right now. Even though you don’t know him, keep him
and his comrades in your prayers.I’ll get the specs on the car and update this post.
The lesson here for all you guys building your MGs…we all get rides when you are done!

March 30, 2009 at 11:04 pm #238180So far it’s just Schu and me running our MGs to Carlisle. And I’m having major brake problems that I may not have time to sort out between now and Carlisle. I’ve got a daughter playing club volleyball and soccer, so our weekends are pretty full!
If you do come out, our MGs will most likely be parked on the show field with the Speedsters & Spyders. Schu and I know most of the speedster guys. All of them and some of us are VW’s under the skin, so there is common ground. There will be between 30 and 50 Speedsters & Spyders. Just look for the two good-looking red MGs in the midst of that group adn ask for us.

March 31, 2009 at 10:12 am #238181Paul,
Be sure to post some pics. I wish I could make it but my best friend is getting married that weekend down south near Atlanta, I’d better not miss the wedding.
You guys have a terrific time
James
