I officially “joined the club” at 9am, when the flatbed dropped off my Barn Find, 1984 FiberFab TD. It has a generator, so I’m assuming it’s an older motor, as it has a generator.
If anyone can offer any tips on the following, I’d be greatful…
Anyone know how to put the seat back on a FiberFab build?
What is the best way to get at the cylinders on these older motors?
The back wheels are frozen from sitting 10 years. Loading/unloading did not break them free as hoped.
Thanks,
Jack

Instructions for your seat can be found in the library. All the build manuals are found there.
Not being a VW guy, I can’t help with anything else.
Enjoy your build.

"Drive Happy"July 21, 2026 at 8:53 pm #309578Welcome to the club, Jack. Your cylinders are under the fan shroud. You get a clear view of them from underneath. If you’re new to the air-cooled VW hobby pick up a used copy of the Muir book linked here. You’re going to be replacing some seals, wheel cylinders, etc. before you get any appreciable seat time in that baby.
Enjoy the ride!
July 31, 2026 at 12:30 pm #309584I did pick up the book. Wonderful reference, thanks.
Does anyone know where I can get a key 🔑 blank for these? I only got one key. it’s a Cole GE30. None of the little hardware stores near by have a blank. One said he’d cut them, So far, I’ve only found cut ones online. Any suggestions?
August 10, 2026 at 4:17 pm #309598This one is challenging!
I found two comprehensive key blank cross reference documents. Neither has a Cole GE30.
This document shows dozens of Cole key codes, but no pics of the blanks: https://manuals.plus/m/88ed988d42caa0b42c8f9c3eb732893741923435c464ddfbb9205bb6b013e902
This document shows pictures of key blanks, perhaps you will be able to match your key visually. http://unencrypted.web.itd.umich.edu/~pfs/fun/tools/Ilco_keyblanks.pdf
