Ouch… I went under a Jeep and folded my radiator shell in half. Anybody have a line on a replacement? Running a Fiberfab TD on a Ford chassis, but that shouldn’t matter.

"Drive Happy"August 18, 2009 at 1:09 pm #239511Hi Bill,
Verytough to find. As far as we know, no one is reproducing TD grills at the moment. Even Moss Motors does not have them.
fareoh had one for sale earlier this year. I don’t know if he sold it, but it would be worth reaching out to him at fareoh@gmail.com His original post is at:
https://tdreplica.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=556&K W=grill+shell
Start searching ebay, craig’s list etc.
Is it repairable? When Moss did have them, the collective memory is that they were selling for about $550. I have seen them sell privately for over $1,000. Those prices may make a repair seem “reasonable”.
Really wish I could offer more.

August 18, 2009 at 4:59 pm #239512I think Fareoh sold his. I spent over $700 just getting mine rechromed! they also did bumpers and 4 overriders and it came to $1,000.
August 18, 2009 at 6:39 pm #239513MAN, I’m going to put a lock on my shell.
I’ll be on the look out. There was an entire kit on ebay, saw it last night, but I don’t remember seeing a shell tho. It was located under the MG TD section, and not the replica section.
If I stumble on one, I’ll let you know.

August 18, 2009 at 8:43 pm #239514Hey, there’s an idea!
Maybe you’ll run into an un-built kit selling for $1,000 or less. Buy it, use the grill and have a ton of spare parts!
And I’m only half-kidding.

August 18, 2009 at 10:23 pm #239515I just looked at it. I was wrong, it was in the replica section. The radiator part shown is totally wrong.

August 18, 2009 at 10:44 pm #239516You are right James. That is not a grill for an MG, original or replica.
If anyone is interested, those are body parts for a Classic Roadsters Duchess. Judging from the mounting points around the passenger compartment, it looks like they are for a VW.

August 18, 2009 at 11:05 pm #239521The hits just keep on coming. Realize I am not verifying any of these. Just sharing what the distributors say they have.
Frankly, I find this one hard to believe. If it’s real, someone ought to buy all that they have at $106 each!

August 19, 2009 at 11:03 am #239523The grill for $160. would just be the center slats.
The rad shell for $500 is 70 miles away, and I have a call into them, and am waiting for an answer from them.
Thanks for all the replies.

"Drive Happy"August 19, 2009 at 11:24 am #239524Hey Paul,
You really went to work on this one! Great job! If Bill can’t land a deal on one, it sure won’t be for lack of effort. Again, that’s what makes this Club and Forum great. (Plus the occasional comical anecdotes)

August 19, 2009 at 11:31 am #239525Bill/Paul,
You know the LBCar co with the $106 Shell has a contact and phone. Might be worth a call. Maybe he can provide a photo and a reference?

He replied to my “contact us” submission within about ten minutes and we traded emails after that.
I told him I knew of “a few” people that would be interested. heck, mine is 27 years old and needsto be rechromed. I’d rather just buy one (or two?) for $106.
He is going to check with his suppliers to confirm availablity and get back to me.

"Drive Happy"February 28, 2013 at 2:21 pm #239529Bill,
How much work was it to modify an original to fit your Fiberfab? I’ve located one on Craig’s List, but it would cost a fortune to get it in “chrome-able” condition. I might be able to affordably get it to “paintable” condition…I sent you a PM, just in case you didn’t see this, since I’m bringing an old topic back to the top. Thanks,KentEarly FF TDr on 69 VW pan
Slowly coming back from the ashes...February 28, 2013 at 9:15 pm #239530Well, the car is all apart, but here are a couple photos.
First, the upper flange had to be removed for the thicker glass hood would close flush. The way the hood sets on the side panels maintain the contour correctly.
The lower shell has a different curvature leaving gaps in the surround. This is something i’m correcting in this tear down.
I’m simply going to add a flange flush to the shell.
This is the mock up of the new edging. After some work, it should be a good fit.
I hope this will be of some help.
