Welcome to the MGTD Kit Car Forum. You’ll have a great time doing the restoration. Like I was told by other, check MG Magic for parts. They are the best source I believe. If you live in GA PM me and perhaps we can hook up and help each other out.

This site a Samba.com should help with your VIN #.

Wiring can be difficult, different manufactures had a slightly different take
on wiring, but most somewhat followed the original Beetle diagrams.

I had such a mess in my car, most showed signs of overheating, I purchased a wire kit from Ron Francis wiring. Its not cheap, but is a quality kit.

I have a daytona migi and a cmc TD. the vin for the chasis should be on the top of the tunnel to the rear just in front of the inspection plate.(between the seats) Most of the migi parts are interchangable except the daytona has a different (smaller) grill and the top that MG magic sells won’t fit the windshield is shorter and the rear of the cab dips down where the others go straight accross. you will most likely have to get one made. the mg magic ones will be about 3 inches too short in the back. Look in my gallery there are a few pics of the daytona . There is also a vin sticker on the firewall of mine but that may have been put there by the state inspector.

Oh yea and we just rewired ours it is virtually identical to the fiberfab schematic which you can find in our downloads section. A vw manual by haynes or chiltons wouldn’t hurt either.

Junkman: upload pics by hitting the button on the top right of the Post Reply window–the one with the up arrow next to the tree. Follow the directons from there, navigate to the picture in your computer and hit OK. If the pic is bigger than 500 megabits or something it’ll reject it, and you’ll have to edit it to make it smaller.

engine is froze or just really rusted the fan will turn but

the (crank shaft) I think thats what its called.. the belt

goes on it right? it wont turn but it’s pretty rusty so how

do i check to see if its froze or just really rusted so it

wont turn? I hope i explained it good enough if not just

pm me and i will try to explain better.junkman40449.8509143519

The crank pully is the lower and larger pulley. By way of the fan belt, it turns the generator pulley which is connected to the fan by the generator shaft. It’s possible for the fan pulley to turn and let the fan belt slip along the pulleys.

Best way to be certain, is to first disconnect the battery, then pull all 4 spark plugs. The put a 36mm (IIRC) box end wrench on the crank pulley bolt and slowly turn the crank. Having the plugs removed will allow the pressure to escape the cylinders and make turning the engine easier. If it doesn’t turn, then squirt a little oil in each cylinder and let it sit for about an hour or so and give it another try.

Can’t see the wires too clearly in the shots you posted. You’re asking whether the existing wires in your kit remnant are FF(kit) or VW original, correct?

The Martincic name, BTW, is a little bit famous.

(or was that you who told me that?)

alright I have two questions they might sound stupid..

how hard is it to take the kit car off the chassis? and

what is the shift pattern for a 4 speed VW. I looked it up

online but there are a few patterns just dont know which

    one mine is.

    @larry-murphy

Go to page 2 [VWBased Kits]  look under ”Duchess and Fred Flintstone Floor” for some general information on body removal.

The shifter pattern is iin the shape of an H

1st is at the top left

     2nd is at bottom left

     3rd is at top right

     4th is at bottom right

To get to reverse, press down on the shift lever while in neutral, this will allow the lever to move farther to the left and then to the bottom of the H.

    Junkman,

You can go to the download manuals page and read through the body assembly instructions. That will give you a good idea how to “reverse” the process.
