While searching for gas tank options I came across this new fuel tank for VW Beetles. Even states that the hood must be opened to fuel the tank. No welding required AND…its a 16 Gallon tank. Found it at http://www.CIP1.com
Here’s the link: http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC-C10- 2510
If Santa says I’ve been good I’m gonna get it.

November 25, 2010 at 11:39 am #243034That looks good. But I would maybe check to make sure it will fit under the TD hood. It looks like it might be a little thicker/taller than a stock tank. I wonder if the good folks at CIP1 will tell you the dimensions.

November 26, 2010 at 10:05 am #243038If too big, no problem though, right? Stock Bug tank holds what? About 8-10 gallons? So that’s 250-350 miles. Unless Bridget was doing the Paris-Dakar Rally (again) I’d not see much need for a 16 gallon tank.

Ask CIP1 where it is made. The VW aftermarket is the absolute WORST for horrible quality, ill fitting parts. I know, I have a lot of them!!!
November 26, 2010 at 4:37 pm #243040I did get some terrible aftermarket pieces for the Ghia but switched to two Ghia only parts houses and never had a problem. And the two Ghia only parts supliers know enough to make certain you supply your VIN with the order because the understand that not all 74 Ghia parts (for instance) are the same. My clutch cable was shorter than the 74 year model Ghia. The VIN spotted that right away. I don’t think our kit cars have that problem even with the chassis only parts.
I’ve gotten good stuff from Mid America Motorworks and the best interiors are from SewFine but be ready to pay quality dollars. I get my manuals from Amazon.com and absolutley NOTHING from JC whitney.
