Hi guys,
Thanks again for all your help provided in this forum.I was looking to replace the tail lights (right now it has ugly VW beetle ones), tire rims, and was also looking for a cover for the top (in this picture, you can see black ones). If available at all, would they come in any other color?
So, my questions are: By looking at this photo, would you know where I can buy those MP rims or something close to that, who makes those light covers with the mounts and also, where can I find the covers for the convertible top?
Thanks in advance for any help on the subject!
Best,
Mauricio
March 28, 2011 at 4:17 pm #244086Don’t know about the tail light or spare tire covers but the convertible top covers come in two other colors that I know of. There are some members with tan and some (like mine) with white. Don’t know what color the British Racing Green TDs have for their top covers. You can try MG Magic for the top covers. Moss Motors has original MGTD parts but they are pricey. And there is always a local convertible top place or a boat place that could make one up for you. newkitman40630.8178356482

March 28, 2011 at 7:39 pm #244088That’s correct. Hope you find what you need. And post what they have for spare tire covers if you would. That’d help everyone on the forum.

March 28, 2011 at 11:15 pm #244090Ray, I found the photo on the web. But I thought all MP lafers had those covers. I know mine does. I actually have thought about getting a tire and cutting it and cementing it over the cover.

March 29, 2011 at 7:21 pm #244094Lafers are unique beasts. Not so much an MG TD “replica” as a TD-inspired, and slightly classier, neo-classic. The spare tire cover, the glass side windows, the tail lights–all unique to the marque.
There’s a Lafer owner in North Carolina on the Speedster forum (also owns a Speedster). His name is Aaron White. He’s emailable at ifrinnANTIVIRAL@bellsouth.net
He might know something we don’t about parts for these beauties. The Lafer Owner’s Group seems to be based in brazil, where the cars were made. Here’s a contact I found with the Google:

March 30, 2011 at 10:29 am #244095ed is 100% correct. The MP Lafer is a beast all unto itself. The best place to try for parts and info is the Brazilian club he posted the link to.
I doubt if MG Magic can help you with Lafer unique parts.
A buddy of mine here in NJ justs retired and moved to Bethany Beach, DE. He has a Lafer and it acutally has roll-up windows.

July 17, 2011 at 11:48 pm #244097The taillights on my ’81 Lafer TI appear to be from an MGB. As for the mounts, you might have to source those — and the rims — from Brazil.
