Good Morning
I am in the process of converting from using a amp meter to using a volt meter. my setup is as follows.
Starter solenoid #16 to Inition switch. Starter solenoid #23 to amp meter.Regulator #15 to amp meter. #15 from amp meter to ignition switch.
My question: Can I just go direct Regulator #15 to ignition switch, and what do I do with #23 starter solenoid? Can I just take out the wire, or do I have to connect it elsewhere.

If I was doing this, I’d just connect (join) the wires that were connected to the back of the amp meter. That would, in effect, complete that circuit. Plus, you’d not be stringing new wire all over the place.
Then hook your voltmeter to an “key on” voltage source. Nothing that was hooked to the amp meter would connect to the voltmeter.

Mark..if I am understanding you correctly, you would hook the starter solenoid wire to the regulator wire, and hook them both to the ignition switch? My power to the ignition switch is currently coming from the amp meter.

What I am saying is when you disconnect the two wires on the back of the amp gauge, just connect them together with a butt connector. That will keep that circuit complete no matter where it starts or ends.
Your amp gauge is actually just “spliced” into that line. It measures current flowing along in that circuit. The current just flows through the amp meter.
Your voltmeter just needs to be connected to a good ground on one side and an “ignition on” source of power, just like a radio, etc. If it reads backwards, swap terminals on the back of the voltmeter. It works just like a multimeter does.
