Hi all I am new to this forum. my name is Curt and I have a 1986 Classic Roadsters 1952 MGTD front engine Ford powered. It has 1 mile on it and is not licensed for on road use. it has been sitting in my shop for 7 years.
When we had it transported to the Phoenix Arizona area the car hauler lost the hood. Does anyone know where I could obtain a hood for this car. Then a little work on some problems and I would be up and running.
Hope this is the right place to post this.
Thanks Curt gdog1@mondspring.comSeptember 10, 2011 at 9:14 pm #246374Thank you one and all. I did a valve adjustment. Ellitchka was running rough – very much 1,2,3.4-sounding.
I used the info from Samba to try an adjustment for for first time- took about 2 hours. I really messed it up. When I drove it was clacking and and very loud. Quickly parked. I Went back to the Muire Book and found that my TCD mark was off. I re-adjusted- took only about 45 min- now that I had been there. I found that some were off with very wide gap. After this second adjustment she started with a very deep, smoother 1,2,3.4 and sounds great. The most I have done for cars in the past is replace a radiator or replace valve cover gaskets. Guess tune up might be the next attempt. Again, thank you for this Group.
September 10, 2011 at 9:38 pm #246375Suggestion. VW valves sould be set cold. Let her sit overnight and
chexk/reset in the morning before starting her up. Set all valves to
0.006 and you’ll be good to go.

Allen is spot on. Even that quick drive means you checked them again while the engine was hot. Allen said “should” be set cold. I’ll go a step further…VW valves HAVE to be set when cold.
Before you start ‘er up again, do another valve adjustment.
Consider it practice.

Hey Paul, are all the Dutchess hoods alike–V-Dub and front engine?

September 11, 2011 at 3:28 pm #246379Here’s another valve adjustment tip;you should use 3 feeler gauges;if your setting calls for 6 use a 5 and a 7.the 5 should go through and the 7 should not.The reason behind this is the amount of drag for each person setting vavle clearance is different.
September 11, 2011 at 11:10 pm #246380My guess is the Duchess hoods would be the same for a VW and Front engine.
