    Hi everyone.

Well I have finally gotten Sarasota on the road.  I’v re-done her machanics, wiring, uphlostery, carpet etc. etc.

I got Sarasota in July of this year from a guy in Arkansa and have been working seadly to refurbish her.  Being retired helps to have the time to put into it. Hope you like the color.

At first I was thinkng of changing the color, but after alot of elbow grease and the additon of the lights, turn signals, mirrors, top, etc. etc. I think it looks very good.  Still have plenty to finsih, dash board front trunk box and repair of minor fiberglass scratches.

The top I got from mgmajic and re-worked the bows,s to allow me to fold the top in half to store it under the cover behind the seat.  That way I can have it with the car always and living in Floida you never know when its going to rain.

Mark,  Good looking TD. I really like the wheels with the blue color. Looking forward to more pictures and details. Great progress.

    Looks good Mark.

As the owner of a (very common) red TD, I gotta say….

I love Sarasota’s blue! Very unique. Very nice!

That’s a great looking TD. And yet another TD with trim on the front fender. How do they do that?

Thanks guy’s for the in put.

Alan the trim is easy.  You can get it a almost any auto supply store.  Its 1/4 inch wide and just sticks on.  You can take it off without harming you paint  etc. If you go to Autozone or Advanced auto just ask for chrome wheel well trim.  Comes in various sizes but I found 1/4 inch wide looks the best.  The back fender is a litle more difficult so still working on it.

I have added a few more pic’s, finally figured out how to reduce the size for this forum.

Also Alan I hope to meet up with you at the Bug Jam.

That is absolutely gorgeous, Mark! I don’t know what the “before” version looked like, but this one blows me away.

One question: Can you fit side curtains on it with the mirrors mounted on the cowl like that? Or do you, like me here in Southeast Texas, rarely run with windows at all?

Beautiful car Mark. It color looks like one I saw for sale down the road from me in I believe Clarksville Arkansas. If it is the same car you have made some very nice improvements! Your rear cover support looks like the one I made for mine out of 1″ aluminum tube with rubber chair leg caps for non skid. I keep mine in the front trunk where it will also support the front lid.

    Hi Guys

    Bill

I have the side curtains but decide not install them.  Remined me of my golf cart curtains.  Plus I live in sunny Florida and only concerned if I got caught sometime in the rain.  Not cold enough here to worry about heat.

The top I re-worked, by cutting to bow’s in half and installing a spacer between them which I got from a marine store, and then installed quick release pins so I could fold it into two parts, which allowed me to place it behind the seat and under the cover.

    Mike

The rear cover is attached to the back of the seat with turn type snaps.  Regular snaps around the out side which also are used for the top when up.

Also this car was from Arkansas don’t know if its the one you saw or not.  It was a good platform to start from, but turned out to be much more than I thought it might be to get it to its current state.  Hopefully by spring I’ll have it close to being done.  Still have some minor gel coat item to take care of here and there.

    Thanks Guy’s for your input.

Wow, what a striking color. The interior really sets it off as well. Very nice work. Congratulations on a great looking vehicle.

    Mark,

Noticed in the photos that your door panels aren’t secured with screws. Did you make slotted holes in the cardboard backing and install the panels like on a regular Bug? Looks nice and clean that way.

    Allen

The door panels are secure using a Nylon Door Trim Panel Retainer instead of a screw.

They are installed in the door panel behind the fabric.  We used the previous screw holes in the door and we simply pushed the retainer ends into them to secure the panel to the door.

That’s the way the trim shop installed my new door panels. The retainers are available at Lowe’s, and probably Home Depot, Ace and Tru-Value. Not expensive. It’s a very finished look (and the panels can easily be popped out and re-installed, if necessary).
