It is not too early to get your registration for Carlisle. In fact, you get $5 show field registration until year-end. That brings the price down to a right-reasonable $15, and frees up an extra $5 for breakfast, which consists of massive egg sammiches cooked up by the band kids.

Talkin’ 3-eggs on a hard roll with enough bacon on top to choke a wolf. Yeah, man!

Register online (click on Import & Kit Nationals, top right) December 16th through December 31st midnight EST and save an additional
$5 per car registered off the already discounted pre-registration
    prices.

They send you a sticker and you put it on your TD windshield. When you drive up to the gate on May 18 (or whenever) they just wave you through. Sweet.

The way the group does this in the past is to register for the kit show field and sign up as part of the speedster owner’s group. This gets us in with the biggest & nicest group of knuckleheads on the field. They share.

This past year we got a smokin’ FIVE TDs on the field. It was impressive even to the Speedster/Spyder contingent (which had something like 40 cars).

It is my hope that we can top this in 2012. Hoping Paul gets his mighty red machine back, we get repeats from last year–and maybe a few who did not make it but now regret missing it.

How about we shoot for 10 TDs? Who’s with me?!

We’d love to do it but that’s a heck of a haul from south Louisiana. Sounds like a lot of fun. We’re gonna hook up with a local British Car Club down here. They are mostly later model MGB’s and such but said they’d welcome a TD owner even if it is a replica. Gonna attend their January meeting and see how warm the reception is.

Ed’Paul, I’m trying to wrestle 2 grandkid graduations in May.  I’m trying to fit this in also.  I would probably tow MiGi up.  Would that present any problem?  In your experience, what does everybody usually do for the 3 days?

    @edsnova

Things to do at Carlisle are several:

There are impromptu cruises/joy rides “organized” by various club members. Last year there were two separate “covered bridge tours,” at least one of which included  covered bridge.

There are 50 acres or so of cars there–all kinds of old and not so old foreign show cars, plus all the kit mfgs, and lots of funky replicas. Buttonholing their owners can be enjoyable.

Drinks. (I will be offering Pims Cups again–a proper British summer drink)

Bands (which in my experine aren’t great, but .  . .)

Sit by and greet other people who come around; tell your own story.

Catch up with and meet fellow TDReplica members; try and recruit any stray TD replica owners who happen along.

    Ogle the Spyders & Speedsters.

    Photo ops.

    Dinners.

    Possible bumper cars excursion.

While on site you can get your car dynomometer tested to see if it does, indeed, have 85 horses.

There is some kind of small curvy race track–I woul like to try it, though I’ve heard it disparaged. (This and the dyno are extra $)

    Listen to Wobby tell stories.

    Fix what’s broke.

Watch highly-skilled Speedster/Spyder people fix what’s broke on their cars.

Run under the bleachers when it rains.

    I’m gonna edit Ed’s post just a bit….

The “bumper cars” are completely unintentional. Actually, there is a slick track go-cart track a couple miles from the Carlisle show grounds. Indoor and outdoor road courses. Pretty challenging actually. But it does sometimes turn into a bumper car outing. Like I said….slick track!

    And Ed did not mention…
The acres and acres of parts vendors.
The cars for sale area, which is separate from the show field.

He did mention the kit manufacturers. Anyone who is anyone in the kit car hobby will be there. With lots of demo cars. And sometimes demo rides!

I’m gonna try again this year.  Money and shoulder surgery was a issue last year.  Saving toward it now and if nothing happens between now and then.  Probably going to tow mine to at laest the motel though.  Lookin for a trailer or dolly or??  Having a automatic may be a issue with a dolly, someone said tow with rear wheels up but I’ve never seen it done.

Montie,  An auto transmission has a pump that needs to turn to cool the transmission.  This pump is (depending on the manufacturer and model) driven by the transmission input shaft or the output shaft.  If your pump is driven by the output shaft, you should be able to tow it with the rear wheels on the ground since the pump would be turning.  If it is driven by the input shaft then when you are towing with the trans is in neutral the pump is not turning and you may be restricted in the tow speed or distance you can tow.  Sometimes it is simply not recommended.  If you want to know whether your car can be towed safely with rear wheels on the ground, browse around on one of the RV web sites since those guys often tow a “toad” behind their rigs.

Roy, thanks for the tip.  I was going to ask my transmission shop guy.  He’s got lots of my $$$ thru the years, hoping for a little free advice, he will have “Audry” is the early spring for a check up anyway.

Okay…question for you folks. I won’t even be close to having my TD even driveable in time for Carlisle. Would I be abvle to get in on all this even if I was coming in my Chevy Silverado or my Ghia? I’d like to go and should be able to make it this year.

Bring the Ghia and join all the cruises – fun w/ a bunch of like minded folks

    – remember most of our rides ( TD’s and speedsters ) are VW based – you

will fit right in w/ the Ghia

Ed and Paul…register in the judged or non-judged part. Probably non-judged right? Then sign up with the speedsters group. Where do I do that?  Thanks

    Allen,

Just register for the non-judged show field. On the registration screen, there will be a drop down for club affiliation, Speedster Owners will be in the drop down.

I registered only the Duchess. Positive thinking! If I end up in the Volvo, I will change it when I get there.

Thanks Paul. I’m registered with the Ghia and like you, if I end up in the Silverado, then I’ll change it when I get there. Its about 15 hrs from here. Should be a fun drive. Now to book the room.
