    @argee

    Just got a TD replica car from my wife for my 50th Birthday.  It’s an 86 Classic Roadsters Duchess with a 1973 Beetle chassis and drivetrain. 1600 cc motor. Engine and tranny are fresh rebuilds (less than 1k on both) while the brakes, tires and exhaust are all new.   A few little things that need to be tweaked but nothing you wouldn’t expect on a kit car.  She got it for 4k so hopefully that is a good price, don’t really know enough about them to know myself but it seems like a good deal.

    Anyway, looking forward to learning about these and getting to know more about the forum users and your cars.

    You’ll have $4k’s worth of fun before you know it.   Post some pictures and log in with your car and personal data.  Just click on any of PaulMossberg’s posts and click on the link that he always includes (he’s our esteemed moderator).  Welcome aboard, post pictures, ask questions, have fun.  As Ed, one of our frequent posters says – TDreplica: unmatched fun per $.  (I think it was my idea and he stole it.)

    Welcome aboard ArGee. There are quite a few folks here who have London Roadster Duchesses so you won’t be alone. $4K is a good price especially for the condition she’s in. Nice job.

    I used to live in Wisconsin (Beloit) but the job moved me to the deep south in middle

    Georgia. There is a guy here who is still in WI. He goes by 1oldbuzz. If you sign in the registry you’ll see a map with all the members locations and a spreadsheet with info on them and their TDs.

    Looking forward to seeing some pics.

    Glad you found us Rich. $4k for a gone-through car sounds like a great deal. And a red top! Really? Please post pics.

    If you have some VW knowledge you’ll know what to do to keep her running easy. If not, do what we all did & get yourself a copy of John Muir’s “How to Keep Your Volkswagon Alive” and a set of metric hand tools, as he instructs. Easy & fun.

    Then drive the snot out of it.

    Thanks for the warm welcome, definately will get a copy of the VW book and download the manual.

    The surname (Gearheart) is being tied into the car, having a local machine shop (run by friend) make me a new Radiator (Gas) cap that will be a mechanical heart to replace the Bird that is on there.  I’ll post a pic when it’s done.

    As far as the red top goes, I’ve tried putting it on for the past two evenings, it seems about an inch too short to fit on the car. Can Vinyl shrink??!  Seems I’ll need to locate a vendor to custom make a new top.

    It should be tight. If the weather is warm, it should be tight. If it’s cold, you might think it’s too short…

    If you can’t get it to close over the windshield, maybe try adjusting the middle hoop so it lays down. Get the top up and then try to get the hoop up after that.

    Rich,

    Take it off the car, lay it in the sun. Get her good and warm, then try to reinstall it.
