Is it possible to still buy the replica kits for the MG TD? If so, is it possible to find someone in New England to build one for me?
May 5, 2013 at 4:47 pm #255735Yes, just keep a eye on ebay or the Samba forum (thesamba.com)classifieds. or just do a google search.

May 5, 2013 at 7:18 pm #255736Unassembled kits turn up from time to time on ebay and craigslist. But there are no manufacturers making them any more. Some spare parts can be had through a company called MG Magic. Some others through Moss Motors and other fine British car parts purveyors. Most of the hardware on the kits is not exclusive to the kits, so can be found if you get a kit with some missing bits.
Grill shells are very hard to find.
The better option is to buy a low-miles car that was already assembled and freshen it up.
As for finding someone to assemble it for you: I’d start making friends of mechanics who run old school hotrod shops–especially the ones who do air-cooled VW stuff (if you plan on going the rear-engine route).
Good luck. Keep us posted.
May 5, 2013 at 7:30 pm #255737Prototype Research & Development Ltd. is the only manufacturer I know of that still produces new reproduction MG TD kits:

As some other guys said, kits often appear on eBay and Craig’s List.
Any good mechanic or body person can assemble a kit for you.

May 5, 2013 at 10:42 pm #255738There’s almost always one or two completed cars on eBay, it seems. Keep an eye on it. For example, see this one recently sold in NY state:Here’s several from the Samba site classifieds, including an unassembled kit for $2000, and others in all ranges of condition:
