A very nice example of an early FiberFab, indeed. Of course, I’m a bit partial to red…
Currently only one $5200 bid which didn’t meet the reserve price. It will be interesting to see how this one ends…Early FF TDr on 69 VW pan
Slowly coming back from the ashes...January 9, 2014 at 10:08 pm #259312Looks sharp, except for the top.

Slowly coming back from the ashes...January 10, 2014 at 7:14 am #259314Looks good. Tops are only for days you forgot to check the weather report anyway. Well, to me anyway. Mines looks about like that one and its only been up twice in 5 years, first to see how to put it up and once on a 10* day to take it to repair shop.
January 10, 2014 at 8:30 am #259315I run with my top up in the summer on real sunny, hot days if I’m going to be on the road for an hour or more. Shade is under-rated.
January 10, 2014 at 8:38 am #259316On the other hand, Schu doesn’t own a top.
But, I’m with Ed. My TDr has been rained on twice. Once on a clear “not a cloud in the sky” day when I was in a restaurant eating lunch. The second was unavoidable. Other than that, here in NC, my top is up (no side windows) whenever it gets hot. I like the look.January 10, 2014 at 9:33 am #259317When I worked in Naperville, Il my MiGi was my daily driver Easter to Thanksgiving. You really can’t do that without a top. Although I remember many morning freezing going to work because the afternoon before was warn and I was too lazy to put the top up in the morning. It was about a 30 mile round trip and I did it for about 12 years. I have about 120,000 miles on MiGi since build.
I now work in downtown Chicago and no longer drive it to work, cost of parking downtown and I don’t feel safe leaving it in the CTA “L” parking lot.January 10, 2014 at 12:37 pm #259318I love the idea of daily-driving these. My registration precludes it, but I still love the idea.
January 10, 2014 at 12:53 pm #259319Craziest weather I ever saw. It was 15* earlier this week. 70* today in New Bern, NC. I just got back from a 30 mile ride. Runs perfectly.
Ed, you need to change your registration.January 10, 2014 at 1:14 pm #259320I intentionally didn’t register mine as an antique, so there is no limitation on how much I can drive it. Of course, it hasn’t been driven since, but that’s a whole ‘nother issue… 😉

Slowly coming back from the ashes...January 11, 2014 at 9:38 am #259321Holy Cow! This car is currently listed on carsforsale.com for $24,000.
January 11, 2014 at 9:52 am #259322Geez…
Well there is one born every day.
And I hope one of them sees that ad, bargains down to $20k and thinks they got a “deal!”
I’d love for these little cars to start selling like that!

January 11, 2014 at 4:10 pm #259323Always so funny to me that running Speedsters–even very modest examples with pan-based chassis and small engines–start in the low teens while our cars, which are exactly the same under the skin and look cooler, struggle to fetch a third of that.
But!If original TDs were going for $250k I suspect our cars would increase in value a bit.January 11, 2014 at 6:17 pm #259324I drove my Lafer to and from work daily for about five weeks last year, while my younger daughter was borrowing my regular ride — a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT pickup — until she could get enough cash together to get her car repaired. I kept the top up most days, as the 25-mile run from our house into downtown Houston would’ve left me soaking in sweat otherwise. I wouldn’t have tried this at all if the paper I work at didn’t have a gated, card-access garage across the street, though.

1600 cc Type 1 engineJanuary 18, 2014 at 4:05 pm #259325Ended at $7877, with 8 bids, and still didn’t meet the reserve price. Will be interesting to see if it gets relisted, perhaps differently…
Yet, for bidding to go to almost $8K should be reassuring for those of you with nicely-done TDrs…Early FF TDr on 69 VW pan
