If I were shopping, and lived in either a hotter, or colder, climate, I would give this one a very close look. Looks to be a really nice hardtop. Looks like real TD like knock off wheels….and, that looks like an air conditioning compressor under the hood. In all, this car looks darn good – with a lot of options. I’d say it’s a good deal at $7,500 asking.

PMOSSBERG 2014-10-30 11:18:34 October 30, 2014 at 10:31 am #261971Correction: the wheels are wires, but not knock off hubs. Still looks like a good buy, if engine & transmission are good.
October 30, 2014 at 11:23 am #261972Now that’s interesting…the same car is for sale in Cadillac Michigan for $9,300.
Car appears to be a 1981 build (serial number GD818012).- “GD” equals Grand Duchess. The Duchess was the model name used for the kit. A Grand Duchess was factory built.
- “81” is year.
- “8012” is sequential number. And no, they didn’t product over 8,000. If my aging memory is correct, that was the 12th car. It might ( I repeat “might”) have been only the 12th car in the 1980’s.
Classic Roadsters Ltd.’s hardtop was a very nice piece. As you can see in the pictures, it attached around the rear of the body using the same snaps the soft top attached to; so it was easily removed. The side windows had rods that dropped into holes that you would drill into the top of the doors, with inserts for strength (stainless steel if I’m remembering it right). Small straps snapped to the inside of the door to hold the widnow in place.PMOSSBERG2014-10-30 11:28:36

October 30, 2014 at 12:02 pm #261973The rear wheel placment looks way off? Is this normall for front engine kits?
October 30, 2014 at 12:59 pm #261974Looks like a nice, professional build — and at $7500 is reasonably priced with the hardtop and A/C.
Don’t care for the “brougham chrome” on the sides of the hardtop, though…

Slowly coming back from the ashes...October 30, 2014 at 1:54 pm #261975And I thought it was a Landau look. …silly me? 😉
October 30, 2014 at 2:28 pm #261976I still want to know why the same car is for sale, in disparate locations, for disparate prices.

When I bought mine back in July the seller told me he was tired of hearing from people wanting to know if he wanted them to sell it for him.
And it has to hurt when they seem to be proud of the fact that there are no VW parts. No soul.
October 30, 2014 at 9:26 pm #261978Looks like a decent example and not priced crazy. Hardly a steal though.
Little high in the back too, but I do like those wheels.November 3, 2014 at 5:07 pm #261979The outfit in Michigan must be a broker. I e-mailed them asking where I could see the car and got back a terse form letter requesting I call them on the phone. So I sent a note back saying, hey, I asked a simple straightforward question. Today I got back a personal note containing something of an apology for the first note and saying that the car is located in WI.
