I happen to be blessed with a pretty enormous garage (the previous owner of my house was an unlicensed contractor; put a big addition on without pulling permits). I see stuff like the vid above and feel deep shame that my own space is still a gigantic jumble of tools, spare parts, metal filings, sawdust, a boat, fiberglass and carpet in rolls,…[Read more]

Yes, I think that’s right. If you look at the link above under “pretty good accounting” you see a list of common myths about the Super: that it has a bigger engine, more power, better brakes, etc.The later ones had front disks but those get cut off on a beam install. I think people are just generally ignorant & can’t be bothered to research what…[Read more]

Isn’t is so that the Super with the struts removed is identical to a standard beetle? In other words the chassis is not “super” any more?
-
edward ericson replied to the topic Super Beetle (?) based TD in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years ago
The struts won’t fit with TD fenders and the TD hood. If you have a Super you have to remove the strut front suspension and install a beam suspension. (Apparently this involves a fair amount of cutting, welding, swearing, etc.). You’d then have a TD on a “Super” chassis but the chassis would not be any different from the standard chassis. Here’s a…[Read more]

In my TD Assembly manual, found in the download section on the left, there is an Appendix that deals with the Super Beetle front end. I’m not sure if anyone in the registry has one. There probably is though.

James Cochran replied to the topic '68 wiper switch in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years ago
Donna,
My wiper switch stem was not long enough either, so I carved a pocket in the backside of the wood dash for the switch body to rest, and it works perfectly. -
Royal replied to the topic '68 wiper switch in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years ago
Allen, Sounds like the schematic is wrong if the “run” and “park” wires of the motor are shown as connected to the same terminal on the switch. (It wouldn’t be a first.) Typical wiring has the “park” power supplied by anything that is hot when the key is on.

newkitman replied to the topic '68 wiper switch in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years ago
Thanks for the info. I also found a wiring schematic for the stock VW Wiper motor. I was confused at first because the power wire and the park wire were connected on the same terminal of the switch. Seemd to me they would be fighting each other. BUT…with the switch turned on, the power by-passes the park circuit (offer less resistance I guess)…[Read more]

Thanks Larry, good to be back…..and with a computer. Look at the home page on that link.
Whata garage!Having those windows really would help. I don’t know how accurate the replicas are in relation to the original tub of the TD. To the eye, they look the same. Don’t know about a hardtop fit between the two. Maybe Bill has the right idea, parka… -

Park, is in the wiper motor transmission there is like cam that kills power at the park position that is why there 2 power wires. Dan

I used the switch provided in my Duchess kit, with a 1970 VW two speed wiper motor.
Works fine and the wipers “park” automatically whne you turn them off. -
Rob Baker replied to the topic Accelerator Cable in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 13 years ago
Don because of the tight turns make sure the cable is well lubed. I went with an after market universal cable and cut it to length. You want free movement on this part with the right return spring.
