My dash is all wood. When I insert the gauge through the dash it secures with the bracket which is supposed to draw the gauge up into the bracket. But the bracket doesn’t reach the wood when the gauge is pushed up against the front side. It’s either add a wood strip to take up the distance or fabricate new brackets. Adding the wood spacers (for…[Read more]

If I were you, I’d buy the wire wheel kit from Rimmer Bros and make it fit. The MGB/MGA, Triumph TR3/4 (etc.) knock offs are made to fit on a 4 x 4.5 hub. That’s like 113mm or so. Looking at the hubs, it’s clear that one could re-drill them for a 4 x 100 pattern. Plenty of room for it and won’t hurt the strength any.The correct wheels for a TD are…[Read more]

I guess that some people have a faint recollection that RR’s had a big chrome front grill and that is all they can remember about them. When the guy first asked me about my “Rolls” I laughed. Now I have been asked twice. If my memory ever becomes so bad that I can’t distinguish a Rolls from an MG, – well you wouldn’t want to know.

Ah, got it. Yeah, get another handle, cut a V in, bend and weld. Easy & fun.Great to be able to reach it in an emergency.BTW, driving home from a bull roast today I got the “Is that a Rolls Royce?” routine from a guy in a Maxima.

Thanks Larry. That is what I am looking for. Vertical (or nearly so) is about the only fix that I can think of with a bench seat.

How hard is it to remove the vertical left side of the hood to get at the starter?

Roy, If you can find Calafer’s M P Lafer in the old photo gallery , I think he had some really clear pics of an e-brake handle that is near vertical in the original location.

Exceptionally rare that the bracket legs would be too short. They usually make the gauges so that they can be snugged up through a very thin 16 gauge +/- metal dash.

I think you’re right that the strip is a ground. The gauges might give some indication on the back. See if you can find a minus sign somewhere or a GND. As for the quarter inch of bracket shortness, are you including the thickness of your fiberglass ur-dash? Or are the holes in that way larger than your actual dashboard fascia?

Ed, MiGi has the early Daytona bench seat. Gotta rig up some remote handle on the existing location. I’ve read all the threads and this is the only way I can see to do it.

Wow, thanks Roy. I’ve sourced one though. Should arrive tomorrow or Tuesday. As for your ebrake move, You don’t need a new handle. And if you can weld, the only thing you even want is a 4 x 6-inch piece of 1/8 mild steel to stitch weld over the hole you’re going to make by cutting the bracket out. Just for piece of mind. I actually moved mine last…[Read more]

Ed, I’m probably going to go over to my VW graveyard and pluck an emergency (parking) brake handle and try to move mine to a location such that I can actually reach it. Now that I have a MIG welder, I’m gonna see what I can fabricate. So, if you want me to pull a used switch, just let me know what you think a fair price is for one – I’ll run i…[Read more]

I didn’t do any research other than a web search for ’69 VW headlight switch. You might try this shop: http://www.autohausaz.com/vw-auto-parts/vw-headlight_switch-replacement.html

She will only go for rides on 75 plus degree days an never at night.I have a small electric ceramatic heater that i heat my 200 sq. ft. work shop with when its 20 degrees out. I could heat the car interior to 100 degrees plus with the side curtians on

I think if you plug a boom box into a power inverter you’re double-inverting it. The box wants something like eight 1.5 volt D batteries. But they were monster battery-eaters and so they were made with a plug-in cord which converted the house current to 12 volts DC. So what you’re doing now is taking the 12 volts DC that the boom box wants,…[Read more]

Larry, I was thinking of cutting the lower side panel at the fender and using the same type of lock as a TD but used the screws to put it back but I will in the end up doing it if i ever have to remove the side panel again . I was thinking of using a garage type of lock. Dan R
