Here’s a diagram of the brake warning blah blah blah. Looks like you’re about right. Not for sure though. I’s you I’d check to see if fluid put in at D comes out at E, and fluid dropped in B comes out A & F. That’d confirm your suspicion.

Sort of. It’s more if you have a generator the pump stands straight up. If you have an alternator, because the rear end of the alternator is larger diameter, you need the pump that leans (tilts) back to allow room for the alternator. ALSO…the fuel pump shaft for an alternator is about a 1/4 inch shorter. Wrong shaft is not good.

Great story, Roy. Glad you’re running cool, and that’s good info re the thinner oil leading to cooler temps.I do think your vacuum leaks might have played a role in your higher temps though. Suspect the lean condition in #1 was cancelled by the loss of compression, but the intake air leak probably gave you at least two other lean jugs.Congrats on…[Read more]

More fun–and maybe a bit more pocketbook-friendly. MG fans have these guys. Not sure if they’re still around; believe the whole company was for sale a short while ago. Miata-based, I believe. My fave are these Jag C-cars. Suffolk in GB (and Proteus) seem to have the thing wrapped. But a bit spendy for my wallet at $110,000+ per copy, less…[Read more]

PS I meant to add that I used new original style push rod tubes with new end seals. I had read here and on the Samba about the problems with the aftermarket spring loaded types which “seemed” like a good idea. Go with original equipment.

I just rebuilt my engine and am proud to say that there are NO leaks or drips (now). So, it’s possible. Yes.

Hugh Coffey replied to the topic oil drip in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 3 months ago
PMossberg is right. VW’s don’t leak oil unless there is a problem. Another place is the push rod tubes. The spring loaded are notorious for leaking, use original VW parts. Another place to check is around the oil pump. If somebody replaced it and pulled it using a screwdriver to pry it out, they probably damaged the sealing surface on the block.…[Read more]

GramdpaJo. It’s a pretty nice looking shell and well may be a bargain for someone. Low startomg price but, I’ll bet that it doesn’t “go cheap”.

I have the Petronics on my MG Replica and have never had a problem. They work great, no points to mess with. The only way to fly.

It’s easier to just run a temp jumper direct from the gauge to the battery.
