Paul, About 55 years ago, when I had my first car (a Crosley) I learned well that 4 wheels on the ground is the way to go. Yep, the floor jack held MiGi’s drivers side up about 3 inches. Julie thought it didn’t look safe (of course). Then when I got in the car, she freaked. I started the engine and gave her my bass rod which was hooked to my…[Read more]

There have been a bunch of threads on the wire wheel debate. Search “wire wheels”, making sure you have “all words” selected in the “Search On:” line.Bottom line, no one makes a wire wheel for the stock VW bolt pattern. And if they did, you are probably talking in $2,000 to $2,500 for a set of four.Years ago Dayton used to make a 15″ 52 spoke wire…[Read more]

Was that floor jack holding the car up in the air?

Two wheels off the ground is impressive. I’d probably feel like I was tipping over at that point.

Photoshopped to remove the floor jack & my small storage shed that was in the background. I have another that is not ready yet that won’t have a black background.

Nice action shot, but why is the background all black? Was this Photoshopped?

I had put mine away for the Winter until I woke this morning to 55 degree weather. I took it from off its stands and took it to work today. The mad dash at lunch somehow took longer than usual. Should be in the sixties when I leave to go home. Will probably go cross country and take in Duryea Drive up to the Reading Pagoda on the way. Love these…[Read more]

I traveled a bit last night along side a Honda S2000. We were not breaking any speed records, but I could keep up with him for a few miles, until he pulled off the Interstate. His top was up, so he had a comfortable ride, while I was getting whipped at 65 or 70 mph.
I decided it was too cold for freeway speeds going home, so I stuck to the s…[Read more] -

No windwings on the Lafer, Mark, so I have the same problem with my specs — and flat cap — at anything over 45 or so. I have driven it to work a few afternoons, but traveling 60-65 and being the smallest thing on the freeway isn’t really fun for me. For the most part, I stick to back roads, side streets and two-lane county blacktops.

But how do you keep greasy fingers and hands off of the tablet? When I’ve had books with while working on a car, it inevitably gets dirt and grease or oil on it. How do you keep the electronics clean?
OK, I’ll bring my iPad to work to see if there is a router than I can connect to. I hear the company goal is go all electronic for doc…[Read more] -

Interesting idea Roy. If fits in my work schedule I’d come just to be with other members and tech talk about our TDs even though mine’s not built yet. And you’re not too awfully far away from the middle of Georgia. newkitman40875.5828472222

Good idea on the oval head phillips screws. I’ll look into that. Thanks for the tip.

It looks to me like 12 size 6 oval head Phillips bolts and nuts would work nicely. I would use nothing but high quality stainless steel. West Marine will take a few EXTRA dollars but would likely have a good selection. Bolts and nuts also would allow you to change colors or touch up easiest.
