Ed, there are 2 bolts, one on each torsion tube and they face slightly down. Perhaps screwed in from about 8 o’clock as viewed from the drivers side. If this beam was cut and rewelded, he did a very very good job. I have greased it pretty good and am not able to break anything free. But, I will say that it seems stiffer than the 1948 CJ2A tha…[Read more]

Spend 20 minutes:I’d look to see if the beam was cut. Are the two grub bolts in the middle of the tubes parallel and facing front? If so, the beam was never cut–and that’s probably good news. If the bolts are akimbo (meaning kit assembly protocol was followed) I’d take the shocks out and see if it drops. They could be stopping your downward…[Read more]

Roy,
The road clearance from ground to lower edge of floor pan should be about 7.5 inches.
Your 11.5 inches of ground cearance is way too high.
And when you jack up the car, you should definitely be lifting it through more of its suspension travel before the front tires come off the ground.
I do not believe the lightness of the front end is your…[Read more] -

Awesome. Still, it’s $5 plus the $500 or $1000 for a good air compressor. I’ll put it on my list of reasons to buy a compressor.

Rocky,
Great job – I know how hard it is as I am doing it for the second time right
now – looks great and will be worth it all when you drive off for the first time
– looking forward to those pictures as well. Don’t forget to take pictures of
your kids and yourself working together – I wish I would have taken more w/
mine during the process. -

Take pictures, people! Get at least 1 megabyte, better with 2 or 2.5. email them to me. If you don’t have my email, pm me and I’ll send it.A word on “rust”:I know that some of you–probably most of you–extol that concourse-fresh, toothbrush-in-every-cranny, untouched-by-human-ass look we all admire at Barrett Jackson’s auctions & Pebble Beach…[Read more]

Keep up the good work Rocky. The chassis typically never gets the attention that the body gets so a great chassis will help the car last for a long time. A little extra time now is going to pay a ton of benifits later.

I’d buy one. My London Roadster wouldn’t look too good with a duller finish and some rust on the wire wheel covers. The hot rod is a bit shiney with a new coat of wax, but maybe I’ll take her out this weekend for a spin, and be extra careful with the brakes.
