We’ll be going to Fredericksburg next year. However anything over 100 miles I usually trailer the car. I love to cruise in the car but after a long weekend of car showing I appreciate the comfort of climate control, automatic tranny, no wind noise and my XM radio that I can actually hear while underway that my Chevy tow vehicle provides. Hopefully…[Read more]

When you take it in ask the guy to take several pics of the rework and post them. I’m sure everyone would like to keep up with the progress.

Rockyx,
Now I understand. You’re building the automotive equivalent of Abraham Lincoln’s original axe.
That’s the one with 2 new heads and 3 new handles.
Will there be anything left of the original when you are finished?
Are you going to put the body on hinges so that you can show off this masterpiece?

Thanks for the excellent pictures and description of what looks to me to be a major project. This should remove any question as to whether or not you can salvage this chassis.

Well didn’t work the TD today. Family problems have kept me at the hospital all day. Home to shower and head back to hospital where I’ll probably spend the night with step-daughter. I’m sure everything will work out…just eating time. Going to be a long night at the hospital. Till tomorrow then folks!

Way to go. Keep it up. I love it when our cars get awards. Especially when they deserve them.

This was a topic back in the day when VWs and their competitors were first comng ashore. Someone rented a stock car track in Connecticut, put imports in the infield and squashed them with Cadillacs to prove the point that big cars will crush small ones in an accident. He left the Caddies on the field to punctuate the point.
The wrecker who was h…[Read more] -

Just when I thought I had a pretty good handle on the postwar British sports car scene, along comes something like that. Wow. Just . . . wow.
Thanks, Ed. I’d never have known even where to start looking for that. -

If you have an “incident” with an SUV….all bets are off. And a dented bumper will be the least of your problemsBut in low speed, parking lot kind of stuff, having the right bumpers WILL help.

My 2 cents is it will give you something to bolt the fancy thin bumper to yes.
Most of the cars on the road are trucks and some sort of suv crossover,to wich have a bumper hight 8-12 inches over the mg.
is the correct bumper reinforcement going to stop anything?
Think about this why are none of these kits produced any more? -

Very nice! And is that also a useable commuter mug?

NICE!So the way forward then, is to get some leaf springs off an old pickup truck or something in the bone yard, and then cut those to the shape we want. Having cut my own springs once, many moons back, I advise any contemplating this work to NOT rely on their handy hacksaw. It can be done–just like breaking out of Alcatraz can be done. . . .

I think CA law demands that all the OE smog junk be present and accounted for, bolted to the engine, hoses all hooked up, no matter what the sniffer at the tailpipe says. Because so much of ’70s smog equipment was nonsense (based mostly on the then-trendy principle of dilution–see, for example, the Air Injection Reactor Pump*), and because smog…[Read more]
