  • Ed,
Is the carrier bearing you are referring to a rubber block with a bolt through it under the rear end of the transmission? That’s a transmission mount. They wear out over time. Available at Pep Boys. Could that noise be the bottoming out you referred to?
Don’t confuse springs with shocks. Springs hold the car up. Shocks dampen rebound. Wi…[Read more]

I think it depends on which carb you have. I have only used stock carbs so I’m not sure. Sorry can’t help you there.

  • Of course in this summer of drought with no rain forecast it rained a
deluge on the way over and more rain on the way back. Serves me right
for thinking I could buy a rag top 🙂 I learned the top and side curtain
PDQ when it came time to roll off the carrier (best $60 investment ever).
Rained all the way home, everything is drying in my woodshop…[Read more]

It’s not  just opinion…you do not need the seat tracks.
The Duchess assembly manuals have templates for the outer seat brackets. The manuals are in our Download Manuals page.
The manual will suggest making them from half inch plywood. I had mine cut from sheet steeel, and welded feet to the bottoms to spread the load out.
The manual will also te…[Read more]

  • Thanks Greg.
Mark my words….she is NOT getting the Duchess! Nor is she getting the ’65 Pllymouth Satellite Convertible.

My initial sentence did not say “…look like heck.”
I decided to be polite. 🙂

good thing you guys look at it when you did the listing has been removed . too many questions about it?
By the way I didn’t like the side  curtains  ether.   Ouch

Thanks, I heard the carb needs to be lifted with a spacer? True?

  • newkitman replied to the topic Gen vs Alt in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years ago

Okay…when swapping the generator for an alternator, you’ll have to do a few things.1.  Replace the generator stand with an alternator stand. The generator stand is cut a little longer and the larger diameter portion of the alternator won’t fit properly in the generator stand.2.  Replace the fuel pump to one that is angled away from the a…[Read more]

I just replaced my pans with wolfburg pans. The tracks were on them so I ground them off but the metal in the pans are heavy and they fit like a glove. I highly recommend them.

  • newkitman replied to the topic Which Floor Pan in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years ago

Definitely won’t need the seat rails. Or the jack adapters either. Sometimes at VW shows the vendors have new floor pan halves for sale without the seat tracks. I have seen them that way on the Samba web site and they have the holes already drilled. If you can’t get the pan halves without the seat tracks they are not hard to remove. Grind off the…[Read more]

  • Paul,
There is hope in the future. I am proof of that. Just got married again  an 8/20. I have been thru what you are going thru. No fun. Left my last MG replicar to my ex. Wish you the best.

Not fond of the side curtains at all. They definitely look like they were an afterthought by the way they fit. And I prefer the silver wheels rather than painting the wheels the body color. And what is the badge of below the windshield post? I do like the spare tire cover though.
I agree it does not appear to be a Fiberfab kit. At least none I h…[Read more]

Those side curtains are just one more reason for me to believe that “TD” really stands for “Top Down”.

  • Larry Murphy replied to the topic Which Floor Pan in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years ago

In my opinion, you do not need the seat tracks. Your seats will sit on either bases or frames that are supplied by the kit manufacturer. If yours are missing ,they can be made from treated lumber and covered with carpet.

  • Larry Murphy replied to the topic MG TD or MGB? in the forum General Discussion 14 years ago

Paul, That car looks like a very early MiGi to me .Notice the bumps do not extend the entire width of the fender/running board as they do on the CR Duchess. It also has a rounded top engine cover that I think only the early MiGis used.
Your comment on the side curtains was much more complimentary than my would have been.LOL

  • Paul Mossberg replied to the topic MG TD or MGB? in the forum General Discussion 14 years ago

This is a pretty nice loking car, at least from the pictures.
The VW engine looks bone stock. Probably nothing to say about it.
    I admit I am a little confused.
The seller is sure it is a Fiberfab car. But…
That little “hump” in front of the rear fenders is a Classic Roadsters Duchess detail. The Fiberfabs I have seen do not have that bump…[Read more]
