Paul,
I don’t know what you are worried about – Richard said he would go get it for
you. -

Hey, Tyler! I’m just up the road apiece in Houston. Nothing available here at the moment, but there are usually a couple on the market at any given time. I looked on the San Antonio craigslist and found a FiberFab TD replica in New Braunfels. It’s VW-powered, red, and supposedly has current inspection, Texas tags, assembly books and records.…[Read more]

I take it that Edsnova’s quest for authenticity stops short of the hat?
-
Bill Gould replied to the topic Floor mats in the forum MP Lafer 14 years, 1 month ago
Hmmm. Well, since Lafers aren’t anywhere near to being accurate replicas of TDs — or anything else, for that matter — I’m not too concerned about authenticity. I guess I’ll fall back on what’s worked for me in the past: trial and error. I just don’t want something that would slide up under the pedals and cause a problem.

Paul,
That sounds like an excuse for a coming out party.

Ed,
You might want to invite Cory and others if you want them to tag along on
our jaunt – but they need to drive in the back – right? He He
Anyway – Greg might come w/ me – his ride is still not done. Hopefully soon
as he is now retired about 1 week. I may flat tow if it is a crazy hot day – last
3 hour drive in the heat about did me in and that…[Read more] -

I’m a lot pickier. I’d request pics of the car and the girl!

Thanks Ed.
Neat comparison. I’m impressed by the lengths you have gone to to achieve that original TD look! -

Welcome aboard London.
Got a name?
I don’t own any myself. But I hope there is at least one Mossberg in the gun collection. I have to do my part to keep that part of the family in business!
You will learn tons from the people on this site.
And as you already experienced, we are VERY willing to share our knowledge and opinions of these wonderful…[Read more] -

Don’t worry, collector car insurance will only be about a $100 a year, give or take a few pennies.
It’s a bitpremature since you don’t have a car yet. But there is a ton of info and company references in this thread:

Welcome to you, london.Yeah, we get all kinds here. You’ll fit right in.There’s another group also called speedsterowners.com. They’re replica Porsche 356 people and one of them, Cory Drake, is a military (and now strictly civilian, I think) firefighter who really went wild on his car. Hope you two can get introduced some time. We lean on that…[Read more]

I will have to save my pennies! So far I have a mere $1500 to throw at a MIGI, hence my attempted purchase from a dealership.
I know- some of you guys must be thinking that is a rather small down payment; but I’m excellent at bartering. I once got a guy down from $8,000 to $4,000 for a Jeep because I paid in cash. If I don’t get a price I like…[Read more]

Here’s a nice TD on ebay. Also a red one listed just above it for 1K less. Both are in way better shape than the one in your 1st post.

It’s a kit car. Insurance is going to be $100 to $300, but probably with limited driving (no driving to work, etc.) Check the forum; there’s a lot to know about the difference between “agreed value” and “stated value.”

I was hoping for the TD crowd only on this one–just for effect. But if anyone down your way–Wolfgang’s almost done right? Cory? Bruce?–wanted to crash this party I’d sure love the company.Right now we’re looking at three cars: me, Wobby(!!) and Greg, who lives almost there. You’d make four, and a couple of speedsters would be a hoot. I know…[Read more]

Oh, yeah- I don’t think there as a single head that didn’t turn when I was test driving. Not that I care about attention but it does demonstrate the extreme beauty of the car.
I think I’ll email the dealer a copy of the URL for this page and tell him to call me when he wants to get rid of it. He was extremely adamant about the price and claimed…[Read more]

How did I know about the brakes? Experience, sir! I paid $3500 for Bridget about two years ago. Still working on the brakes. If I had it to start over I’d do the whole job all at once–replace everything from the master cylinder to the linings (maybe not the drums though). Old cars, even when not driven (actually, especially when not driven) are…[Read more]

London,
At the risk of being even more negative than the above comments, there are projects that almost have to be free to be worth taking on. This is one of them. Sadly, you can buy complete TDs for $3k – $5k. This one has problems with the engine, brakes, body, dashboard, bumpers, accessories, top . . . have you priced a complete top? It so…[Read more] -

By the way, Edsnova- I never mentioned how bad the brakes were. How in the world did you know that?
