mrlmd,The easiest way to check if the flaps are installed in the fan shroud is to look at the base of the fan shroud near each side and see if you see two screws (like the engine tin screws) there. If so, you most likely have the fan vanes installed. The second way is to either look or reach below the fan opening and see if you can see or feel t…[Read more]

Mine are installed.
The “back bar” and the steel spring mounts are the real bumper. The chrome is just a pretty cover. -

I agree Rob!
And BDriver…that is a GREAT catch. I love it.
A few members of tdreplica.com also hang out with the Speedsterowners.com crowd. Those guys have a LOT of stories about people not realizing their cars are fiberglass reproductions. And just about every Speedster reproduction I have seen would run rings around an unmodified…[Read more] -

I’m sure you’ve been following along, but PLEASE read through this thread:
https://tdreplica.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=536&P N=2
And PLEASE read through your actualy insurance policy. There is a huge difference between “insured for $10,000” and what may or may not be paid to you have a claim. -

And for the record, I cannot wait to introduce Ed as a “dilettante” next year at Carlisle…’Cause most of the gear-heads will have no idea what I’m saying!
BUT…it’s not true Ed. You are NOT a “…person who claims an area of interest, without real commitment or knowledge.” You have the knowledge. And you…[Read more] -

I’ve done a few experiments trying to cool off my car – First – I made sort of a
firewall in front of the engine closing off the opening down to the transmission, not air tight, but intending to block some road
debris and leaves. etc from getting into the fan, keeping the sheet
metal a good 3-4″ away from the fan opening. I rode about 7-8 miles,…[Read more] -

Nobody should knock these cars. I have both a cobra and the MGTD they both get looks. I like them both equally dispite the large performance difference. The cobra can handle the highway speeds the MG is more of a back roads kind of car they both have their place.
My wife clearly likes the mg over the cobra, she doesn’t need the performance asp…[Read more] -

The plug on the relief spring will give you a accurate reading of what the oil temp is in the oil journals. Mine is set up that way and works fine. The higher the resistance the lower the temp, the resistance gets lower as the temp increases, getting to zero at max limit. If replacing the plug be careful to make sure you have a good seal, because…[Read more]

Mi Design classic is insured with State Farm for $10,000. My agent had no problems, it took a couple of weeks to get the underwriters to decide.

It’s just called Hagerty Magazine. I think you can read some of the back issues online, and maybe even order a copy if it’s still available: http://www.hagerty.com/Hagerty-Online/Resources/Hagerty-Maga zine

The folding windscreen brackets on my Lafer resemble those on the original MG-T series, but I’ve never done a side-by-side comparison to see if they’re an exact match. Mine appear to be pot metal painted black, as the TI version I drive came with almost zero chrome. I’ve thought about getting these plated, and maybe having the frame itself…[Read more]

“Car Show” on Speed TV tonight (8/17) ran a segment on this year’s Pebble Beach. The camera showed classic cars parked on the street in the intro. Ferrari, GT40, Maserati, MG TD. Tan with brown fenders and a faun interior. But wait a minute. The wipers were on the cowl. The hood was hinged on the left side at the top. It was a TD replica in a line…[Read more]

Mine are installed — good thing too because within 6 weeks of putting it on the road a lady backed into me and only bent the bumper support bracket. I am sure that that light bump would have put a dent in that brand new 25 year old bumper if the back bar was not installed.

The TD kits are now rare, compared to the Speedsters and Cobras especially. When I cruise the local circuit there’s usually at least 5 Cobras on the lot. There’s never been another TD. Bridget gets a lot of admiring looks and I’ve yet to have anyone diss her–not within my earshot, anyway. Cheap? You becha! Probably one of the five or 10 least…[Read more]

Paul, I’ll let you move this to the thread on insurance. I couldn’t find the one we were using.

Tom, I’ve wondered the same thing. Maybe ours are so looked down on because of the price. It’s hard to find any Speedster for less than 10 to 15000 and Cobras well maybe 25000 pluss. Not sure how the rest are approched, but not a day goes by when I out in Audrey that I get

Sadly, that’s not completely true for all of us.
Obviously the VW drivetrain stuff is readily available. And there are many vendors for reproduciotn TD parts.
But while MG Magic has parts that are universal, much of their stock is for CMC/Fiberfab. For example, major body panels, roofs, side curtains are not shared across manufacturers. MG Magic m…[Read more] - Load More
