Dick, With your special suspension,I’m not sure if they used VW brakes or something from the aftermarket . I searched ATE Brakes on the web and found numerous sources ,so they must still be in business.Gook luck finding the type for your car.You may have to take them off and match something up.

Mike, I asked Mark [Pink MG] about ADDING LEDs to the rear of my TD in addition to the existing lights. He said that the two types would work together with the regular flasher when wired into the same circuit. However , if you REPLACED the front lights with LEDs, I wonder if the effect might be a faster blink like can occur when a bulb has bu…[Read more]

What “points eliminator” kits did you guys use?

Mike replied to the topic Lowes show in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 8 months ago
Cool story Ed. Glad you liked the points eliminator. I was going to add a modual to mine last year and discovered my distributor was on its last leg. I found a distributor at O’reilly that comes with a modual built in and ready to go with a match coil for under $130.00. This is a vacum and mechanical advance unit. Not only does my car start…[Read more]

If you have a VW engine, you really should pick up a copy of John Muir’s book, if you don’t already have it. http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Volkswagen-Alive-Step—Step/dp/1 566913101/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1312250946& amp;sr=1-1#reader_1566913101Happy trails.

That information is good to know Pink. Would the standard flasher be ok as long as the front led lights were used along with the standard lights in the rear?

Thanks, Mark. Every scrap of information I can get helps. (Although the more I learn about these little jewels, the more I realize is yet to learn.)

So much to like about your ride — that creamy yellow paint job,
the nicely laid-out dash, and all that gleaming brightwork. I’ll bet
you get a lot of long looks driving around Atlanta! And as a bonus,
it was bolted together right here in H-town!TexAg7140761.5379513889

At the risk of being overly cautious, I would check the torque on the heads and the valve lash after the 50 mile run. Torque is a funny thing. A bolt that was set precisely could be over or under because it was drier or oiler than the rest. Running an engine for a short time evens out those issues. You may find that torque settings have cha…[Read more]

I had trouble getting Bridget into second all the time when I first got her. Turned out the shifter bushings were a mess. I replaced them, put a $7 “quick shift” kit in, and things are much better now. Works every time as long as I remember that second gear is a little away from me, not straight back.

Of course, have your mechanic check the valves and change the oil, but in the long run, if you can do these recurring maintenance tasks yourself, you will save a bundle of cash and keep that new engine tuned and adjusted properly.I dreamed about a red one for years, but took a cream one due to pricing and timing. Red certainly catches the eye…[Read more]

Great looking car fellow Georgian. Been meaning to ask those who have had both the bench seat and bucket seat cushions which they prefer. I especially like the white interior. And the headlight screen protector is an added plus.

Larry Murphy replied to the topic LED LIGHTS in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 8 months ago
I’M adding additional lights. On the BCW, the spare tire is mounted on a rack made of approx 3/4 diameter round pipe much like the original MG.I plan to mount the LEDs near the top of the rack where it connects to the body of the car. The BCW uses the small MG rear lights with glass lenses.which are small and somewhat dim by today’s standards.…[Read more]
