I will probably flat tow. And this will be my first long distance flat tow. Any suggestions as to what to be aware of and spares to bring?

It me.
Start making plans right now for Carlisle 2019. This coming year will see some changes, and the first of these is this: we have a nicer hotel with cheaper rooms—$129 a night.
We’ll be at The Marriott Shippensberg and, instead of running out to Caddy Shack on Thursday evening, we’ll have a barbecue right on the hotel patio, which featu…

The Courtyard Marriott in Mechanicsburg is the venue of choice. They provide a reserved area of their parking lot for the group with room for trailers. We piggyback with the Speedster Owners Group. There is usually a discount through the group for room rates.
But…It’s way to early.
Now that this subject has been brought up, who is heading up t…[Read more]

I removed the fibreglass wheelcover when I did the restoration of my FF TDR I fabbed a bracket from 3/16 steel similar to one sold by MG Magic and mounted it to the engine cover with 4 bolts that I reinforced with additional fibreglass. I added four rubber spacers around the opening so the spare does not rest on the engine cover. I also added…[Read more]

Seems now would be about time to make hotel reservations. Which hotel is the normal one for this group? If I bring a car on a trailer, where does the trailer and tow vehicle get parked? I guess we drive our cars to a special spot for club display. Are they left there for the three days or can we drive them to the hotel each night? What else…[Read more]

My Fiberfab came to me with a full spare trunk mounted and I have had no problems.
There is a fiberglass “hat” which bolts thru the trunk cover and the metal tire bracket mounts to that.
I have the same piano hinge which you described. There is a photo in my media gallery.

I have a Fiberfab TD powered by VW with a fake spare tire on the engine cover. I guess it’s fitting that a fake car should have a fake tire! I like to carry a real spare on the rear cover. The subject is not covered in my Fiberfab manual. I know that MG Magic has a bracket that can be used on the rear engine cover – anyone using it?
My question i…[Read more]

Spyder build continues.

It’s amazing how much time can be spent making something a half inch shorter or two inches longer. The shifter box and parking brake handle–if you want to get them to look similar to the original 550–are quite a fettle.

I can’t give you the details on the suspension at the moment, as I am not there. Later on I will get my ex-mechanic friend to have a look. No doubt he can tell us.
You’ll also have to answer silly questions like,”Is that a REAL car?”
Well, that is a real existential question indeed. Just what is a ‘real’ car. I bet many ‘muscle’ car owners would…[Read more]

Noels, congratulations! Your car looks terrific and just wait until you drive it. People in other vehicles literally hang out of their windows to video you going past.

Very pretty car. Mine was originally Chevette powered. It does still have Chevette front and rear suspension. I am curious as to what suspension your car has.

Yes, it is too early for storage – but we are now in Portugal, and headed to Trinidad for a month of sailing (see http://lifepart2.info) before returning to Canada for winter skiing. Then we go back to the boat in the spring, and so it won’t be until the proper summer that we get back to drive Sally.
And if I seem a bit excited, that might have…[Read more]
