Ringo,
Let’s start an engine frustration club, we can’t start the engines, might as well start a club. On my 2.3L, the slightest movement of the timing belt tensioner made the belt jump a notch or two, easily.
My baby is still hanging out waiting for me to put the engine back together. Keep us posted on your findings. Paul, the registry is a…[Read more] -

Ringo, Remove the #1 sparkplug, reattach the wire and ground the plug to the engine and hold your finger over the sparkplug hole while someone cranks the engine. The plug should fire at the same time you feel compression at the plug hole .From looking at the picture of your engine I can see that getting to the distributor is difficult ,this may…[Read more]

I haven’t checked anything else since last night. The tow driver offered the idea that there’s some drive off the belt system that works the dissy and thus the possible jumping time (?). This is my first OHC so I’ll have to get the basics down for checking it out.It was running well at 40 MPH, then nothing. No hiccup, no backfire, no missing th…[Read more]

If you have a spark on cyl No 1 get out the timing light and see if it’s close with engine just cranking? or can you manually find TDC and manually rotate the crank to see when you get the spark, not sure?

Ringo,
If it has spark and compression and the timing belt is in place that certainly eliminates a few most likelies. I suppose it’s possible for rhe timing belt to JUMP, but that’s highly unlikely. Have you fully eliminated fuel problems? Is the electric fuel pump working? Should be easy to check.
Good Luck!

Hi gang,My first practical use of the registry that I keep pestering about.Ringo’s (aka Steve) Duchess has a 2.3 L Ford. I’m ashamed to admit this, but I once failed to properly tighten the distributor hold down bolt on my 65 Plymouth. Of course the distributor moved, threw off the timing and engine went dead. Just a thought, although I am sure…[Read more]

Hi Dick, That is great news. Glad it’s going to be an easy fix. I will probably shift mine a little more gently now that I know that a piece of plastic is holding things together.

I got a little enthusiastic shifting and the shift lever went all mushy. But I did
surprise a pimply-faced teenager driving his mother’s Honda. But finding a
gear turned into a hunt and hope process.Rick Drake to the rescue!
The problem is that little nylon clip on the “shifter shaft lever arm pin” that
had disintegrated. Thanks to Rick, I was…[Read more] -

Paul…that banjo wheel is the Bee’s Knees!!! It looks like it belongs in a TD replica…$339 is a lot cheaper than the Grant too.
I am building a Volksrod out of one of my two Beetles. It has to have one of these wheels! -
Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Zero-Dish Steering Wheel in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 10 months ago
Chuck,
Most all the aftermarket steering wheels use adpaters. It would not be smart business to manufacture wheels that only fit one vehicle. Hence adapters are usually required. They also make may different logo horn buttons to sort of “match” what you want it to look like or say.
The Grant adpater (old style) should not move the wheel any closer…[Read more] -

This wheel is flat,

Grant’s standard adaptor is about four inches. They sell a low profile adaptor that is about two inches.
And this is an interesting option, based on original VW steering wheels.

I agree with Larry. I have convex on my Duchess.
Moss has good surpisingly reasonable prices for these. Only $17.95
UsSe this link and order two rubber pads too. http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/SearchResults.aspx?SearchText =mirror&WebCatalogID=9

Ed, My suggestion is to get the convex mirrors not the flat ones. The convex design will give a much better view of what is going on around you. Moss motors is not the cheapest place but do sell quality MG TD parts and acessaries.
Hope you enjoy your new ride. -

Ed,
Moss Motors is where I got my mirrors, nice quality.
Good luck with your new purchase.

Dan must have some fancy modern filler neck.
My Duchess is just an open pipe, with one 90 degree bend to the tank. And of course the ’65 Plymouth is just a straight pipe into the tank too; the old “behind the license plate” pipe
