Hey everyone,I am glad the suspense is over and now I can talk about the car and the excitement of the past few days. First of all, thanks for all the nice comments, I don’t feel that we deserve them. I feel the compliments should all go to Mark. The car is all he said it was and much more ,no disapointments on this end at all.Becky and I both…[Read more]

Hi Dick,
I have one of the BCW Schweppes cars ( 2nd owner from new). Really love the car although very unimpressed by the build quality – which is all sorted now as of last Winter.
I’ve heard the number of 50 Schweppes cars being built although I really can’t verify the number. Source of the info was the original owner who won it in a…[Read more] -

Rich,
You the man. I think Larry only had one vote. I must have changed at the last minute. I know I hovered around Larry’s button for a while, but have slept since I voted and reset my brain, couldn’t remember exactly who I voted for.
Good voting. Hopefully Larry will post some pics for the Pink MG. Mark did you take some pics on the exchange?

Sounds like the clutch cable may need to be adjusted. Where does the clutch grab in first gear?
Or after the trans is warmed up from a nice drive, drain and refill it with a quality synthetic gear lube like Royal Purple. If it sat for years, it may have a synchro or slider hanging up. -
Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Steering wheel for VW TD in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 16 years, 1 month ago
go to the Grant Steering Wheels website, pick out the wheel and adapter kit you want and then order from Summit Racing or JEGS.
http://www.grantproducts.com/

http://www.jegs.com
You can search by manufacturer and part number, they both add a 3 digit vendor code before the actual manufacturer’s part number. It’s easy a…[Read more] -

Great! So now it works just fine from a dead start?
Transmission science is so fascinating and so above my head, glad you got it working. Great idea trying that.

I have a Grant steering wheel adapter on mine and it works great. Allows for many different steering wheels to be used without having to buy the expensive fitted wheels. I think I picked it up at AutoZone. They may have one for the VW also. I know what you mean about zero dish, gives more breathing room

WOW. I was watching the movie in my head while reading about the adventure. It is such a gut wrenching feeling when you’re on the road, far from home, and things start going bad. I was somewhat in your area last week on my TD-less roadtrip in North Georgia and up in NC on the Parkway. We were west of you in the Asheville area, traveling the…[Read more]

OK guys…I’ll post another thread with the whole 2 weekends long story or saga as it turned out.
In the mean time the Pink MG is now residing in Reidsville, NC at the home of “Murph” the Bassett Hound.
“Murph” lives adjacent to a nice garage/workshop and has commissioned Larry Murphy to finish up the Pink MG. When it’s done, “Murph” will have…[Read more] -

Update:
The “reverse lock-out ” works fine, but I still couldn’t get the car in reverse. I took the whole gear shifter apart, felt around in the gear oil as Rich suggested. Apart from some “gack” I found no irregularities. I even widened the hole in the fiberglass under the shift boot just in case it wasn’t allowing enough clearance. I to…[Read more]

Ringo,
Somehow I knew you’d come through. I have to have a good sound system. Believe it or not, all my home stuff is fully restored tube amp driven. The sound is awesome. I know I have to go solid state, and I really appreciate your input. Definitely good stuff!
Thanks,

Hello Rich;
I’ve never owned a car that wasn’t more fun to drive when it had a good sound system. I knew that a roadster would lose sound at speed but I still wanted good sound when cruising back roads. An expensive system would be a waste and there is the issue of room.
My solution was pretty easy since I have the storage hatch in back, but I s…[Read more] -
