Hi Rob,
My front engine chevy TD kit car weighs in at around 1900 pounds. Surprizing the same as Pauls VW kit.

Hi Rob,In case we don’t hear from anyone with a front engine TD, my VW based TD is about 1900 pounds. Not an exact comparison, but I hope it helps.

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Improving gas mileage of 2.3 L Pinto eng in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 17 years, 4 months ago
Welcome Jennifer:
First, before the gas mileage tips, is some advice on the 2.3L Ford “Lima” engine. The oil level and condition is critical to the overhead camshaft lobe survival. Keep the oil clean and check it often. Otherwise this engine is a great little 4 banger.
OK…gas mileage. Is your car a stick or automatic? Due to the fact that these…[Read more] -

Jennifer:A tune up would do wonders for your mileage. Be aware that a 25 year old car that hasn’t been run much will need a major tune up to be dependable. The usual stuff like plugs, plug wires, distributor stator and cap, air filter, PCV, timing check, and more than likely a carb rebuild or cleaning. Also replace any vacuum lines. Those hoses…[Read more]

Jennifer:Good news, since those engines appeared in vehicles up to the 90s. They appeared in everything from Mustangs to Rangers to Aerostars. Most replacement parts are easily available at any auto part chain stores. They run well and are almost bullet proof. Almost any shop worth it’s salt has working knowledge of them so it’s not such a chore…[Read more]

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Fiberfab radiator in the forum General Discussion 17 years, 4 months ago
The Pinto based car I partially built used the OEM Pinto 4 cylinder radiator. What doesn’t seem to fit right?
There are lots of custom radiator fabricators if you want to spend the $$. -
Steve Crites replied to the topic Pinto engine size in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 17 years, 4 months ago
Jennifer:Checked my manuals and the quickest way to tell size on the Pinto (Lima) engine is by the oil filler cap. On the 2.0 L it’s at the front of the engine, on the 2.3 L it’s at the back of the valve cover. (closest to the driver). There’s other ways but this is the most obvious.Sorry I didn’t check these sooner. Hope it helps.Ringo

Chuck:Jennifer here from just north of you on Salt Spring Island.Have just acquired my first ’52 TD rep (from Lafayette, Georgia – bought on EBay).I am looking at putting shoulder belts in my car and as I plan to put in a roll bar am glad to hear that that is the best way to mount them.Looking forward to doing a trip down the Chuckanut when the…[Read more]

Not getting much joy from the Pinto site, signed up but they still haven’t approved me yet! (Wonder what I did to offend them?!?)Will try the others you suggested, Ringo. Not that interested in performance unless it involves reducing gas consumption, up here in Canada it’s EXPENSIVE compared to you over the Line. Will follow upTTFN Jennifer

Hey Gang:
Had to laugh the other day when I read the comment “looks like a
grenade went off in a spaghetti factory.” Did you mean something like
this?

The only wires that make sense are the original steering column
connector colors. After that it goes down hill quickly. Luckily,
everything was working before I took it apart to make the new da…[Read more] -
