  • Paul is correct, most MGTD’s came with a steel wheel and a “dog dish” hub cab.
I sold a 1/2 completed Ford based MGTD that had direct bolt wire wheels that were made by Cragar in the early 80’s. They were called Cragar Tru-Spokes.
Those wheels were painted cream colored and had a dark green pinstripe. THEY REQUIRED TUBES and would never stay…[Read more]

  • The US Distributor for the TF “variant” is Jim Youngs (Kit Car Builder) brother-in-law. It’s Jim’s wife’s brother. I believe he is in Ohio. I forget his name, but if you e-mail Jim via the http://www.kitcarclub.com website, I’m sure he can hook you up.
When I was interested in building one, 3 years ago at Carlise, they were $17,000 and you had to supply…[Read more]

  • Bob,
Classic Roadsters offered an adjustable seat frame for the VW chassis. It is intended for use with Classic Roadsters bench seat. But I think it could be modified for use with a bucket.
I bought the parts but never used them and would be glad to sell them. Contact me off line at pmossberg@iso.com if you want to discuss this further.

  • MG Magic is probably the only vendor specializing in MG replicas. And most of their stuff is for Fiberfab and CMC.
Many miscellaneous bits and pieces on our cars are reproduction MG parts. the big restoration house like Moss Motors are sources for these.
Just one example, my Classic Roadsters Duchess uses original door handles and latches, door…[Read more]

  • My VW based TD is set up with steel VW Rims, old style chrome caps, with reproduction TD centers. You can see the car in the photo gallery in PMOSSBERG.
Most original TDs you will see will have steel wheels with hubcaps. Wire wheels were an option which most buyers did not buy. The wires flex more than the steel wheels, which hurt the…[Read more]

  • I also forgot, check out lovinbuggies.com They make a plate to bolt your stock pedels to that bolts anywhere you want it to.If you type sandrail on ebay a lot of this stuff will come up.

  • There is a set of Neal pedels and masters on ebay right now.But it ends in 13 hours. There is also a Wildwood pull type slave cyl on there too.Just punch up Neal on ebay motors and it will come right up.I punched slave and found the pull type cyl.too.Both of those items come up on there regularly.

  • From what I have seen wire wheel hubcaps just look hokey.Maybe there is someone that makes a good set but I have not seen them. All the real wire wheels I have seen stick out too far and makes it look like a street rod.If that is a look you like MG Magic still sells a solid chrome wheel with a basket cover.I just like the wheels skinny and all the…[Read more]

  • I have a Fiberfab MiGi that uses an aftermarket pedel assembly. The clutch is hydraulic, and the kit includes a slave cyl.that hooks to the clutch in the back. The unit is self contained, and bolts to the floor with 4 bolts. The unit is made by Neal, and is sold for use on sandrails.I did find the gas pedel on it kind of useless,so I made my own with a…[Read more]

  • Bill,
I bought some wire wheels off a Ebay seller site and now have them fitted to the car. I think they look nice, but it does make the car look a little more like a hotrod. This is because the off set is not quite right ( the wheels and tires are 7″ wide vs. the std 5″ ). I was told the bolt pattern would work on my 130mm x 4 car, but that was…[Read more]

  • Michael,
Thanks so much for your suggestions.  I will take this to a body shop and see what can be done.  My wife is really excited although if we get this problem resolved, she’ll want to drive and I’ll have to be the passanger more than a few times.   Thanks again…..Bob

  • Mr. Big
On all VW TD kits the pedals have been relocated.  One methoid is to connect the existing pedal cluster to new pedals with steel flatstock bars which pass through the floorboard behind the new pedals and connect to the old pedals which are under the gas tank.  The other common method was to remove the existing pedal cluster from the d…[Read more]

  • There is a beautiful and I believe very high quality Miata based MGTF replica which is currently manufactured in New Zealand. I also belive the company has a few reps in US.  Sorry I don’t remember contact info, but a Google search should locate them pretty easily.  There was some discussion on this forum about the kit last year, but it would pr…[Read more]

  • Keith i have seen that conversion too.i also have a fiberfab, but the handbrake is in the normal position and awkward to reach. i would be interested to find out what they do. it seems like i read this was done standard in the Lafer.

  • Hi!
I’ve inserted a picture of the accident. (Took me a Coons age to get it off of my cell phone) The fiberglass, bumper, ‘spare’ tire and bumper mounts have been repaired. As I expected, the new shiny paint makes the car look like its been in an accident. The gel coat doesn’t have near the shine. This insurance company has given my car a…[Read more]

  • I forgot to say that the top is stayfast, and if you give him the numbers embossed on the firewall on the passenger side under the hood he will tell you the date the car was sold, where, and to who. That is,if it is a fiberfab.I have 2 of these cars. One I bought because the owner said it was too hard to deal with MG Magic.I have found nothing of the…[Read more]

  • I just bought a new top and carpet set from MG Magic. It is not old stock, they make them there. The black top they had in stock,I think if I wanted a tan I was going to have to wait until they sat down and made another batch. The top was a good fit,and with the side curtains was cheaper than a local trimmer without curtains.

  • Keith True replied to the topic wiring in the forum VW Based Kits 18 years, 9 months ago

Make sure all the grounds are hooked up and clean, remember everything on a plastic car has to have a ground wire. Also, check that there is juice running all the way through the fuse panel, not just at either end of the fuse.I have 2 of these cars, and like yours they have sat around a lot.I found that resistance would develop between the brass fuse…[Read more]
