Hi Bill. In my mind I am right there with you, on the floor and exhausting the four letter word vocabulary. However, I see myself looking at a crossmember that is in a channel cofiguration. On some of them the channel is open to the top, others are open to the bottom. Recently I have done some iron work on other projects and after all these years…[Read more]

I got into the shifter/transmission end of the engine/trans removal for a few minutes yesterday. I was very busy with “domestic” stuff, but managed a few minutes anyway.
This job is turning out to be a nightmare. There is no clearance room period for the engine or trans period. It looks like I have two options: Removed the bonded/riveted floor…[Read more] -

Hey Mark,
You only live once! I say go for it. There is a nice looking ford TD a fellow named Bill from Pa has in the picture section. He has it set up very nicely. Its time for us Chevy guys to shine. And if you go first, I can pick your brain when its time for mine!
Good Luck, Bill

The wheels are aluminum alloy made by Western Wheel in the late 70’s or early 80’s. They came with my donor car. I had to spend some time to clean them up, they look great now.

Hi Bill,
I had done a little engine “stuff” before this happened. I opened up the air cleaner leaving only the base with no sides and the lid, installed a stand alone crankcase breather, changed the smog carb over to a non-smog (from VW progressive 2 bbl conversion kit), removed the smog pump and plugged the holes in the exhaust manifold, removed…[Read more] -

Mark,
Too bad about the speedo gear.
This is the way my Chevette TD was assembled, almost. It was a driving chassis before the body was assembled. Although my transmission crossmember was bolted vs welded. My tranny is an automatic.
What other plans do you have for the motor while having it out of the car?Bill

Hi grusem…got a name?
Here are some insurance sources. I checked all the web page links, they are current. I did not check phone numbers.
I have two collector cars insured with American Collectors, my MG-TD reproduction and my 1965 Plymouth Satellite convertible. I am very satisfied with the coverage and price. Thanksfully, I have never had to…[Read more] -

Daytona guy,
Check the old posts for MG Magic and call them about manuals etc. They carry a lot of parts such as wiring harness. Maybe somebody else has their number handy and will post it for the 100th time.
Your first order of business is to find a VW only parts supplier and mechanic (often the same place). You will find that VW’s are their…[Read more] -

That’s awesome Phil! Congratulations! And many happy miles!
Nice looking ride. Mine (another red TD) hit the road for the first time in December 1982 and got snowed on first time out!
Where In Canada? I’m in and out of Markham several times a year. -

Hi once more. I assume that your car is a replica like mine. My car is in Florida and he did the top without the car, just with the old top that he took apart for a pattern. Mine is a Fiberfab and I still have the old top too. He made the top after we selected the material and without the snaps. I installed the top with his instructions and…[Read more]

Hi, good to hear from you. I talked to Dean Morgan, Classic Auto and Trim in Lexington, KY yesterday and told him that I offered his services but wanted to be sure that he was ready to do some more of that work. He said yes.
Here is his phone number: 859-278-3908
He prefers to use his cell: 859-983-9435
Hope this helps, let me know. Take care and have fun -

Hello Pepo!
Yes, I would be interested!
1) Price estimate
2) Does the car have to be there?
(I think KY would not be too far to drive.) -

Hi medicinewheel8, I had a top made in Lexington, KY. The young guy made it using the old top as a pattern. I am very satisfied in what he did. Let me know if you are interested.

Hi medicinewheel, I had a top made in Lexington, KY this summer. I am still using the original kit side curtains but I am sure this guy can make them too. He made the top with the old top as a pattern. He gave me a bag full of snaps and a source for ViceGrip plier attachment and then I installed it here in Florida. Take a look in the photos under…[Read more]

My British Coach Works MGTD uses an original MGTD top and side curtains. The top fits on pins with thumb screws on the OEM MGTD windshield frame.
