Book 1 to buy or borrow: “How The Keep Your Volkswagen Alive: a Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot”
You will find many answers in there, the most important one being “don’t panic.”
Most old Bug engines came equipped with a 1-barrel Brosol or Solex carb. Cleanout and new gaskets are typically all they need but if you’ve got…[Read more]

What carb is currently installed? As for rebuilding, would start with good cleaning. I use an ultrasonic cleaner with varsol to dissolve the varnish that builds up when the ethanol laced gasoline evaporates. Will also need an air compressor to blow out all the orifices in the carb. Do not use wire to try and clear blockages as invariably you may…[Read more]

Steve,
The various replicas are slightly different, but generally, fold each side up and over the roof so the width is narrow than the roof bars, the wrap the roof around the two bars.
The Classic Roadsters Ltd. Duchess manual has specific instructions for their car. The manual is in the library. Scroll down to the 25th page of this…[Read more]

If I were in your shoes I’d check out the 2.3 forums like this one: https://www.ranger-forums.com/2-3l-2-5l-i4-tech-31/
They can help you troubleshoot at least as well as we can.
An engine swap seems like a radical step for someone to be contemplating not knowing basics like “what could fit?”
It’s a kit car: Anything can be made to fit. You…[Read more]

Hi Bill. I ran a 2.3 in my Fiberfab for over 20 years before I killed it. I now run a 302 V8. Theres a lot of fabrication involved to make that swap. The 2.8 V6 has been used also.
What is the issue with the 2.3? No crank? Crank, no start? Make sure the timing marks are correctly aligned and the distributor is positioned correctly. I was once…[Read more]

Just bought a VW based 1952 MG TD. I bought the car to help teach myself how work on cars since it has been something I have always wanted to know how to do. I was told by the previous owner that the carburetor needs to be cleaned and rebuilt. I am assuming this is why its a spray to start type of car right now. I would like to know how to verify…[Read more]

You could run it with a 34PICT3 on a stock manifold but you’d probably do better to tune the Delorto, unless it’s icing up.
What Dell do you have? What idle jets are in it?
What is your current overall mileage? I get about 25-26mpg overall with my 120-hp 1914 in a 1500 lb Spyder replica. Your engine should be giving you something similar—but o…[Read more]

That Carburetor really likes to drink the fuel. I am not used to such a gas hog. The engine is about a 1776cc VW. If I go back to a Solex Carb, I have s few questions
First, which Solex carb would be correct for a 1776 VW engine?
Will I lose power by going to a less thirsty carburetor?

Sorry to say, other than a couple old advertisements, I don’t have much info on the Baron. Hopefully others here may be able to help!

Scott,
The Classic Roadsters Ltd Duchess VW manual is already in the library.
If the one you found is for a front engine Duchess, we could def use that one!
