Thinking of taking my BCW52 to Marietta Ohio for the Sternwheel Festival this weekend. Sternwheel show and live music/fireworks saturday and antique car show sunday. It would be an overnighter and there is no room in the car for luggage so..invested in a Runyon Rack (179.00, Engel Imports). . It’s a cleverly designed rack that fits over the…[Read more]

Gabe had built his car with a roll bar. He accompanied us to VA Beach a few years ago. Should be photos in here somewhere.

Somewhere along the way I have lost the London Roadster grille badge from my car. I’m wondering if anyone…
a) has an extra the want to part with (best case).
b) can take a decent, straight-on, high-res photos of theirs that I might be able to make a copy of some sort from.

(here’s one pilfered from the Internet, not my car. The one…[Read more]

- I managed to get the thing fired up last night. Upon reassembly I found the crankshaft woodruff key as well as the timing belt crank gear keyway slot wore out. Basically the only thing holding the gear in place was the belt. I have a short block on a stand in the basement and luckily there was a good key and gear on that. If I get time tonight…

Had phone call from a future TDR member who is looking for advice on installation of two roll bars for his car. He has a FF MiGi on a 72 VW chassis. Only roll bar I recall seeing is the roll cage that Bill has for his hill climbs which is not on a VW chassis. Anyone got any experience with bars like those found on AC Cobra for a VW chassis

Too bad you live too far south, I picked up a Grizzly G4011 last week in an online auction for $200. It will shear, brake, roll, press and notch albeit it is limited to a max of 22 gauge. I did make some seat stands to replace the fibreglass pedestals with 20 gauge last week but had to use a cheater bar to give me the leverage to make the 90…[Read more] -

Have a look at MgMagic they may have a top that meets your requirements. As for installation if you don’t want to tackle the installation of the Snaps you may be able to engage a marina. The top is essentially a Bimini like you would find on a small boat -

Hi, does anyone have any experience with this on an Allison? Need to rebuild the motor, so I need to disassemble the rear to be able to get it out.

Ha! Yeah the holes won’t lighten it enough to matter, but they’re good decoration, and who ever parks a Spyder without lifting up the clamshell so’s everyone can see in? My aims here are three.
- See if I can develop any passable skills in sheet metal forming without investing in necessary tools such as an English wheel or even a bending brake.

I stand corrected, Roy. Thanks for the science.

Only Ed would drill holes in 22 gauge aluminum to “lighten” it. I’m impressed, but not surprised (having seen Ed’s work before)….a passion for precision.
“fealty”? Really Ed? I need to remember to never play Scrabble with you.

I epoxied that missing piece back into place yesterday. Today it looks as if it will hold. As that sheave is not in use all it has to do is spin. Hope it stays together at speed.

Very good. I read the blog and it looks like a unique detail.
Why is it that the most work goes into stuff you never see as it rolls on down the road?

Engine balancing: Very difficult and complex involving dynamics of rotating and reciprocating parts as well as static simple weight differences. That said, I possibly go overboard and always apply the shade tree standard of if it is visibly out of balance, it is too much. I own a very accurate scale which measures down to small fractions of…[Read more]
