Finally got to the dash redo.  I found a piece of Curatinga rosewood (never heard of that) at a great resource for different and exotic wood, just south of Knoxville.  A woodworker friend planed it down and cut the holes for the gauges, switches and indicator lights, and I sealed and finished it.

I consider the second one a spare. If the one you’re using ever fails, clean the terminals and plug in the other one.

I think mine is the standard circa 1970 type with both switches, but I think only the forward one is connected/functional. Thought I had a picture of it from when I was trying to find out why I lost brake lights (loose switch connections), couldn’t locate that to be sure about the wiring.

I got that solved today when I connected the battery.  Turned the light switch to parking lights and saw the light come on. Stepped on the brake pedal and that’s when I located the correct wire. At this point in time I’m only using one brake light switch.

Almost correct Paul. But not in-lieu of rather in addition to. But I’ve tabled that thought for the time being. Knowing me, I could get to engrossed in paying attention to the rearview camera on the screen and not pay attention to my driving.

Kent’s answer nailed it.

And Allen, for what it’s worth, that connection is the only mistake I made when wiring my Duchess. Like yours, my rear wiring harness did not make it clear which wire was the tail light, and which was the brake light.
