Too Cool! You have something most would envy, a true legacy. Its great to have all the paper trail to go with your car, it takes ownership in a whole new direction.

Well the title has been signed over to me and we will be going to get her in a few hours.
So I have a briefcase full of original British Coach Works documents including sales order forms, component sheets for both the front and rear engined cars, an assembly manual in a 3-ring binder, hundreds of business cards that my grandpa had made as a… -

Thanks Sam, and all. I think I will give Forever Sharp a call and see about their adapter. If necessary buy a new wheel with the shorter adapter.

Yes. Ford Pinto and Mustang II 2000 and 2300cc engines were commonly used for kits. Parts for the Ford engines are MUCH easier to find than the Chevy.

285 is OK for a cylinder head temp. Oil should stay below 230F. But, right: our gauges are suspect.

John Simion replied to the topic Engine Tin Fit in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 3 months ago
Is 275-285 degrees normal? I drove my car 25 miles in stop-and-go city streets today in 100 degree temps (that’s Vegas for you). My shirt got soaked but my engine oil temp gauge never showed over 210, and the engine is just sitting there with a stock tin full of various open holes and nothing to keep the hot exhaust out of the engine…[Read more]

Not sure that is a Chevette Engine. Mine is “painfully” 1980’s stock and it looks significantly different.
The Pontiac T1600 (I think that is what it was called) was another variation of the GM Engine used in BCW Model 52’s – which I think were 99.9% identical to the Chevy Engine. Were Ford engines used in MiGi’s too?Tom -

Philip, you might try Forever Sharp steering wheels. I just replaced a Grant type steering wheel with an Forever Sharp steering wheel and it came with a 1 1/2″ mounting hub and it bolted right up to the steering shaft and the steering wheel. I think if you talk with their tech support folks they could tell you if the 1 1/2″ mounting hub would…[Read more]

I hear your frustration about fitting engine tins. When I restored Herbie, a year ago, I had to make several mods to the new tins I used. I even went a couple of steps further, to help to try to avoid extra ABOVE tins heat, especially here in Central Florida. I wrapped my non heater box exhaust tubes with high temp exhaust rap, and I made a hand…[Read more]

Well, picked up my car today (again). We lowered the front pressure down to 20 psi and with that and all the brake work, the brakes are much improved for stopping. The squealing was totally eliminated for the first 20 miles of stop-and-go driving. I mean, dead silent, I was loving it. Just in the last five miles before I got home, however, I s…[Read more]

Allen – You “spent hours grinding and filing to get all the pieces to fit”? Not being unsympathetic here, but I haven’t encountered anything on my car yet that didn’t require “hours grinding and filing to get all the pieces to fit.”
On a more serious note, thank you for your post. At one time I foolishly thought that maybe I would like to ha… -

That sounds like it was quite a project. More than I would want to take on. But, it would solve my problem. I’m still hoping for a cheaper solution. I’m sure there is a smaller adapter out there some where.

I love my new set up since I removed the VW colum and installed a 3/4″ steering shaft from EMPI. I moved everything that was on the stock column to the dash. I had a welder attach a custom union to the shaft and found a cool steering shaft support from SoCal speed shop to mount on the dash. I finished it off with a cool banjo wheel. This set up…[Read more]

good thing you noticed the wobble before it was too late. She’s gotta go and importantly, she’s gotta stop. Yes, reducing the air pressure to around 16 or 17 pounds in the front will make it ride a little better. Some of the guys have put some weights in the front to compensate for the light front end or have taken some of the springs (torsion…[Read more]

Update: Have now been advised that a good part of my problem was that the passenger rear drum wasn’t attached properly and was loose. I believe that, because my wife had noticed that particular wheel wiggling back and forth while following me to the shop. This problem was yet another relic of the previous idiot mechanic. The new guy also sai…[Read more]
