Stephen Houser started the topic New site, new forums, new… everything? in the forum Site Input and Issues 9 years, 3 months ago
As Paul mentioned in another thread we have been working on moving the site to a new forum software. I wanted to start a thread to post updates and track the changes. My hope is it will all go smoothly, my expectation is, there will be troubles along the way.The change is needed as PCSWeb, our server hosting provider, is shutting down. So we need…[Read more]

In 1965 I was a young Marine in Danang Vietnam in a Hawk Missile Battalion and I got the first hard drive the Marine Corps received. It was 5MB, the size of a large washing machine. Inside were 5 platters or hard drives, each 1MB and about 36″ in diameter. When it was running, (It had lots of downtime), it sounded like a herd of horses co…[Read more]

Never used the cassette tapes, but I’ve swapped my share of 10″ and 5-1/4″ floppies. Also remember paying almost a grand for my first 10 my hard drive.

Best of luck with it! Braking is something I’ve been (re)learning to do right, and skidding least as I can, ever since getting my MGTDr!

We may be offline for a few hours when the transfer happens. I’ve got it mostly scripted but there are some parts I’ll have to do manually after the forum database imports. Waiting for the domain transfer, hopefully will be done within the week.stephenhouser2016-05-29 11:44:29

Bob replied to the topic Steering Box Adjustment – Need to cut a hole in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 3 months ago
The hole I would need for mine is pretty much exactly where the light/badge bar mounts on that side.Have new steering gear box to go in and if I could squeeze a small screwdriver-sized hole in there without messing up that bar mount position I think I will try it while the old gear box is out before new goes in. A simple rubber grommet or plug l… -

I cut a an access hole about 1″ in diameter and fabricated a cover plate from left over fiberglass sheet to cover. Really was very simple.

It’s really scary the first time you start removing body parts, even when they are just body parts on your car. This is my procedure.
First thing you do is put tape or a towel or something else in the crack/gap between the gas tank and the hinge nearest the firewall. You wouldn’t think it would be so easy for stuff to fall into that gap, but t… -
billnparts replied to the topic VIN question in the forum TD Replicas 9 years, 3 months ago
If your car had the federally mandated 17 digit VIN then, yes, the 10th digit would designate the model year and the 8th would designate the powerplant. Reconstructed vehicles do not follow that system. Every state designates differently how these get titled.

Thank you John for your insight. I will begin the disassembly tomorrow. Thanks also Ed for letting me know that I will not be the only one with this little bit of custom work.

VW pan and a Subaru engine can be fun.
I will be working on a rollbar for that too.You may want to look around recent posts on this forum. One of our number has a Volvo’d ’52 with wire wheels. -

The answer to your question is yes. A couple people on this board have used a hole saw on it, and a plug, painted body color, that fits perfectly in the hole. It’s hardly noticeable when done.

Many thanks for the warm welcome. I can see this forum is a great place to discuss ideas. After getting the kit home and spending the day just inspecting the firewall, bottom moldings, and taking some measurements, I can see the problems of converting it to a front engined setup. It really is set up for installing on a VW pan.
That said, per… -

If it’s like my FiberFab, you can take off the hood and grill pretty easily. Once you’re there, it looks like you have the fiberglass insert that newkitman is referring to. Once the hood and grill are off, you would simply remove the entire insert and that would give you the access you need. I wouldn’t lie, it would be some time and work, an…[Read more]

Here is the splash apron/Grill shell housing. The steering adjustment is just about in the middle of the two chrome bolt heads next to the drivers side fog light. I wish it had an access panel. 🙂 -

Don’t you have a Daytona Migi? According to the manufacturer’s comparison the Daytona MiGi has the separate fiberglass insert between the front fenders that you can remove. I’ve seriously thought of making one or purchasing one for my Fiberfab.

Agreed. I looked at the ford bases kit build manual. Firewall is a big issue.

Welcome aboard Beth. I believe you will thoroughly enjoy being in our group. And to the best of my recollection your TDr is the only red with white fenders I’ve ever seen.

Other than loosening the rears a little so they don’t touch the drums when not applied, I think the main issue is to somehow reduce the hardness of the pedal so it isn’t just on-off. The tires are new (since Nov. 2014 anyway) and have low pressure. Dunno about the stiffness of the narrowed front axle beam, but the car rides and steers fine, at…[Read more]
