Re “I believe the Fusseneggers stretched the hood a little in order to get a better fit of the body over the VW donor: it lets the BCW’s full length grill sit in front of the front axle beam and allows the rear torsion bar to tuck behind the front of the rear fenders.” Not just BCW. My FiberFab meets both criteria. I think my FF is a little…[Read more]

You have an original with beautiful and expensive wire wheels. The original will also hold its value better. No offense to the replica, but the original is a pretty easy choice.

Thanks Ed, Makes sense that they would not have two slightly different moulds. Rick is the only one with the old and new, so I’m looking forward to what he may uncover.

Like most of the TDrs, the BCW is, I think, 3 inches longer overall than the TD. I believe the Fusseneggers stretched the hood a little in order to get a better fit of the body over the VW donor: it lets the BCW’s full length grill sit in front of the front axle beam and allows the rear torsion bar to tuck behind the front of the rear fenders. (Of…[Read more]

Side louvers are open on my car, but made of fiberglass. I obtained a steel TD top pf hood to campare to the current fiberglass one and while the curveture and where the sides and top meet are exactly the same, the original maybe approximately two inches shorter. Not sure why.
The placement of the grill and everything seems to be all in pr… -

Not stock. Notice that all the fenders are somewhat rounded where they would have attached to the missing center sections. And the outside door handles are missing. The straps securing the gas tank have been modified also. The owner took some 1950’s customizing liberties that you don’t usually see on a real TD. I’d guess that most folks, if…[Read more]

Tom – in a previous post, I think you said your louvers were real – was I dreaming?

I’ll start a separate topic on the differences. Of course I am fairly new to the original and replica hobby, but it will be fun to hear which car others think I should keep/sell.

Hey Carlisle-bound TDr’s,
I was able to borrow a 12 x 12 canopy — just in case it rains or suns on us…Now I just have to figure out how to get it into Emma — hmm — it should fit in the passenger seat well….???You all can report to Wobby that given a choice between my tea-serving-cup-tray-drive-in-diarama or a 12 x 12 canopy, I opted for… -

I remember you were considering getting it. There is a Triumph powered tin-TD nearby (northern NJ) for $14,900 and another one (with original motor) in Western CT for $14,500. Both seemed to be well priced.
I finally had an opportunity to compare the BCW-TD to a tin-TD and the lack of even just a few scant inches (maybe 2) made the tin-version s… -

I think the P-1800-engined TD is kind of the best of both worlds. Authentic steel over ash body and 100 horsepower, but with proper dual-SU carburation.
Of course, I don’t have to maintain it….Sweet ride. Love the wheels. -

Around here you can tell who doesn’t know how to drive a stick shift. They accelerate and then when they shift from one gear to another, they lose most of the speed they had trying to get into the next gear. If you were watching from the side of the road you’d think they were rowing the vehicle along the street. Pretty sad but…it is fun to watch.
