I’ve lived in states that require safety inspections as well as those that do not.I HAVE noticed that in the states that DO NOT require inspections you see some cars that belong on a scrap heap, not the road. Missing or burned out headlights, missing or rusted out body panels, rusted out mufflers, the list goes on and on. Many are obvious safety…[Read more]

Hi Rich,
That black London Roadster looks pretty good under all the dust. But there’s nothing like a pair of eyes directly on the target. If you are interested, let the group know. Maybe someone will be close enough to take a look for you. -

I tried them. No help. I returned the gauges, keeping my black vdo gauges. Only thing I need now are bezel rings for my speedo, tach since the dash holes are larger. Will put pics up when done

“We put too much time and effort into our cars” — This part is absolutely correct, but that observation does not support your conclusion that safety inspections would prevent the “collection of crumpled fiberglass and a major hospital bill.” It is precisely the effort that we put into the cars that prevents the “collection of crumpled…[Read more]

I see safety inspections as a good thing myself. We put too much time and effort into our cars to end up with a collection of crumpled fiberglass and a major hospital bill — or worse (
) — because some other driver couldn’t be bothered to make sure his brakes or steering were working right.

Similarly, the Carter low-pressure pump I linked does not require a separate pressure regulator. It is internally regulated not to exceed 4 psi. A stock mechanical VW pump can produce up to 7.5 psi at high RPMs (with a mechanical pump, pressure is proportional to engine RPM), and the stock carbs handled it fine, though the 28 PICTs and the later…[Read more]

Good info, guys. Never thought of this as I did the Soob Job. Now I’ll need to check and make sure the Subaru wiring incorporates this feature. I think it must, but I don’t know.

In my research saw reference to Bosch relay but did not realize that it had the safety feature that you have explained. I thought it was just a brand that they were referring to. I used $10 relays and a bit more wire to accomplish the same safety configuration. Never the less the important take away is that when changing from mechanical to…[Read more]

The Bosch relay I described does the same thing, using only one relay, by monitoring the tach signal from the coil. It only pumps when the engine is running.

Two cautionary notes I picked up from research when I installed an electric fuel pump. 1) install regulator to adjust fuel pressure to 2.5 for a carb (PICT 34) 2) use a two relay electrical setup with a NO and NC is series circuit. The NO contact is controlled by the ignition switch and the NC by the low pressure oil sensor. Logic for electrics…[Read more]

I installed the Empi kit last weekend using the socket and 2×4 method to install the bearings. Only problem encountered was with the casting nub on face of caliber. It is proud of the face of the disk and consequently would not allow the wheel to rotate. Had to install a 1/4″ wheel spacer and use longer wheel lugs to clear the the nub. CIP1 tech…[Read more]

Kent, Just over 2 yrs ago, I installed some front disc brakes that I had bought from SoCal for a bit over $200. I also put in a new master cylinder at the same time (nothing special). The kit was made by AC Industries in China. Still VW drums on rear. Good looking kit. Rather nicely finished. Works great – no pressure valve.
