Tom: I have a BCW but rear-engined. Your car looks great and so does Ric’s.
I have a VW build manual but of course yours are as different as can be. I do know a little about the front-engined BCWs from talking to another owner who came and went, ClockDoc.Yes, the frames are “custom” but they are pretty rudimentary. Simple ladder frame with… -

It would likely be a better potential investment, since a TDr at best holds its value. It doesn’t and likely never will appreciate in value, while a real TD does. My concern with it is the suspension and brakes, assuming the wood is solid. Your TDr likely handles, rides and stops much better. Not sure how much you drive your TDr, but that may be…[Read more]

Since I have a 1981 Corvette for sale, that is what I recommend. But the 1979-82 Corvette is not a true convertible. The best buy is probably a C4 corvette 1992 or newer with the “new” LT1 engine. Although I am not fond of the design.

Just got around to visiting the site and saw that you have a BCW and were looking for a response. I have a BCW with Chevette running gear. It is a 4 speed. There does not seem to be much information on the BCW Chevette. I have not found any manuals. It may be that all the Chevette models were built by BCW themselves. Whereas the VW models…[Read more]

Thanks Tex. I think the electrical is just a bad alternator. If it’s more involved I’ll share on this site.

About 4 years ago, my wife had finally “had it”. My garage is attached to the house and my old oil-less smaller air compressor which shared a wall with the living room had just cycled on. Anyone who had had or heard a so-called oil free air compressor will attest to their loud and incredibly abrasive sound. I had explained to her that belt…[Read more]

Nice to see a center brake light, although a loaded luggage rack would block it from view. Sorry to hear about the electrical problems. They can be a bear to track down and remedy. Best of luck, though, and congratulations on joining our wacky, happy throng.

A V6 car? Cool. Gabe built one totally custom. The automatic should be a C3 or C4 assuming it’s only a three speed.

Must admit I’m a bit jealous. I have a 2hp, 30 gallon horizontal and it won’t keep up with my pad sander. Handles air tools and such OK – even painted a 64 Beetle with it- but it is certainly limited. I’ve drooled over big verticals, but haven’t pulled the trigger. There just have always been higher priorities, since this 30+ year old one still works…

Here’s a shot of the rear of the car too with the funky 80’s hollow squre stock chrome travel rack that looks to be some sort of towel bar!

Thanks Langan. Was thinking that may be the issue – I charge it – it runs fine but I was probably running lights, radio, heater blower, etc. off the battery and when I stopped the thing was dead.
Yesterday it sat dead for a while in front of NAPA. We tested it and the battery had nothing in it. Then it sat for a while and in the process of pu… -

Needs alternator. There is both the Chevy and Ford manuals a viable for down load on this site. Not really usefully but good to have. Chevette is pretty bassic. I would have alt.tested or go to single wire unit and just stare at rewire of car. It looks totally worth it. Is the hood steel?

I
am exactly at this stage of building a never started kit. I cut the column extender to get the steering wheel out of my belly. I thought the kink in the disk was the result of taking out a little too much. added some washers and reduced some of the distortion. I have convinced myself that the disk was designed into the car because steel on…[Read more] -

Hood opens on either side with a hinge down the middle like a TF. Cable actuated from inside for passenger (battery) side of engine and then a spring hook inside for other side.
Drove it around Saturday (was warm here – in the 50’s) and by the end of the day the battery was dead (!?!) and I had to roll it to get it started. Ordered a new ba… -
