I have the aftermarket speedometer. It’s made by VDO and is 3 1/2 inch across.

Reused the kits upper center strut. Already had the panhard rod installed so all I needed was the two lower links. I just measured and adjusted so the wheels were centered in their fenders and the wheelbase was the same side to side. Quite simple really.

Just think, last year someone smart could have picked up a mechanically new ALL NEW ZERO miles on engine/trans everything else VW MGTD for $1,500! Glad no one jumped on it. I’ll never recoup the $3000 a year storage ($9000 total) but hey it’s ONLY money!

It’s Mrs. Emma Peel You Twit! Yes, Diana you are sooo right! It must have been the thought of you in the leather catsuit and your metallic blue Lotus Elan, both are quite exceptional!Sorry, JohnBut I did pick up today a set a new tar boards (floor insulation) and a rear engine tin to splash apron rubber gasket to keep the cooling engine air in.…[Read more]

These narrow Roadsters don’t have nearly as tall of sides as their other, larger seats. But, they’re plenty tall enough to keep your butt from sliding around. They don’t have a whole lot of foam padding, but they seem to be quite comfortable since the seat and back surfaces are suspended from the tubular frame. Luckily I have narrow hips, so…[Read more]

So I go this route if I can’t find an ’84 – ’86 SVO T5 and bell housing that already has the cable based clutch? Sounds a lot easier to find, thanks.
One more question, why the three link instead of 4 link parallel arms? I am building a lotus 7 with my son and that is the route we went, along with most everyone else. I have read it is easier to… -

What brand/size? The stock Bug speedos look and work great, especially when paired with a 5-inch tach.

…and from what I remember you car scoots right along like a scalded cat…..a good incentive for me trying to find and install a set of Kadrons as another option (but they are getting real hard to find….)

I will put in a vote for Kadron/Solex duals.
I had one of mine ported for a vacuum advance Dist and in 10 years have not had a single problem other then a dropped out part I lost for awhile when I took them off to fix another problem. They just work and go and go. Can be found often for 100.00 plus a rebuild. If they fit. -

Took a bit of time off from building shelves and pegboard panels (had built a couple workbenches earlier)…
To unbox these, remove the old seats, and do a quick test fit:
At 19″ wide, 26″ deep, and 31″ tall these PRP Roadster suspension racing seats will fit in there nicely. They’re sitting on universal bases from Speedway Motors. These universal…[Read more]

Hmm — I like the idea of trying 1.25 rocker arms — but sometime WAY down the road, so to speak…
I need to get the engine work done and the fiberglass rear deck back on the car. It looks like a RAT ROD right now — and the only ones that appreciate that look are the neighborhood teenagers who wave and cheer when I drive through the n… -

C20 – I have no direct experience with it, though I’ve run the slightly more aggressive C25. It looks similar to the Engle W100. Mild, shorter duration, with slightly better lift than stock. Should be a good torque producer at low-medium RPMs. Interestingly, it would be a good candidate for 1.25 rockers also, especially since you went with the…[Read more]

I can feel your pain – I had to take over a year off from my project to build a garage, and have also endured disenregrating tarps and car cover, and wet/damp floorboards. At least I wasn’t paying rent all the while. About finished with shelves, tool stands and workbenches, so I’ll be able to get back to it in a few days…

Good point, Ed. I’d suggest dual 36 singles for Jacks 1641 then. Kadrons are wider than Webers, and are very tight in a Bug, but fit well in a KG or Bus. I have no idea how they’d fit his BCW.The only real knock on the 36s is that they didn’t use separate bronze/brass bushings on the butterfly shafts so the casting would wear and start leaking…[Read more]
