On the back when I ordered my new hubcaps the dealer said that I needed spacers because of the length of the hub. So I got those. I will post photos of my ride (Jennifer) when I finish with the fender. I will also let you know if moving the headlight bracket works.

Sam, I’m quite sure that the only mechanical differences between 69 and 71 are oil passages, doghouse cooler with a bigger fan, 8mm head bolts, dual port manifold and heads and the carb being the 34PICT with vacuum advance and retard distributor (two vacuum hoses). The 30 carb, found on the 69 VW, has a fitting for SVA distributor on the port…[Read more]

I think you’ll be pleased. It’ll take some time to get them set right. But once set, you’ll be good…until you bump into them while working on the car! The good news there is that the mirror gets tightened to the bracket. So if you hit them, you only have one angle of adjustment to worry about. The other option….never put your roof up!Sure, on…[Read more]

Second coat of paint. Looking better. Have to rub it out and apply 3rd coat.
A closer look.

I cast my vote for some sort of fender misalignment.Remember…these car parts are hand made…and then hand assembled…perhaps by knuckleheads like us who may (or may NOT) have been expert mechanics.I know I wasn’t. And no one will ever know by looking at my car curbside, but I do know where the assembly errors are.

These have been posted before, but deserve to be seen again. These are inside a stock tunnel. I believe this is a Ghia. But it is essentially the same inside a Beetle’s tunnel. The differences inside your VW TDr tunnel….pedals and shifter have been moved rearward about two feet, and the associated cable tubes have been…[Read more]

I’m still working on this issue. I plan to pull the carb and go over it again and probably will make the main jet mod suggested by Ed (drill out the main jet to .052″). Additional suggestions have lead me to also changing the distr. from the mech. adv one I now have back to the vac. adv. model which leads me to the following question(s). I still…[Read more]

Not sure about the fender rub. I though that was being diagnosed/debated in another thread? And I think it’s mentioned in this thread…the goal is usually not to lower the cars.More often, the goal is to soften the front suspension. Then, if necessary, use the torsion tube adjusters to raise the car back to the proper ride height. The second step…[Read more]

Allen might be onto something. Look at the fenders from the front and see if they hang “even.” You may be able to pull the left one up just a bit by adjusting the headlight bracket….somehow.
Or your car could be like mine, which is just a tad off center. My left front tire is almost flush with the fender lip, the right side is tucked under a half… -

Thanks Paul. I see them. NOW.. where do I get info about my drivers tire rubbing the fender? looks like all of ya’ll want to lower your ride while I need to raise mine. At least on the left.

Yep! Take out those two bolts and lift out the shifter. Then if you feel along the top of the shift rod towards the back you’ll feel the bracket. Normally welded in with 6 or 8 welds.
