Hi, and welcome! Even though these TDrs are relatively electrically trouble free, they all seem to come with a fair share of electrical problems. Not to worry, once fixed, they stay that way, unlike the Lucas equipped originals.

There’s not much that hasn’t been tried. Check out edsnova for top mounted wipers.

My wife and I did the carpet on my VWTD. We used the carpet called automotive carpet from EBAY. We bought two yards. We bound the edges with leather from an old coat. My wife had no trouble sewing it with her sewing machine. We cut it in approximately 1 inch strips. It was underlaid with the aluminum backed insulation that was cut aprox 1/2…[Read more]

A new VW wiper motor costs $80 at Mid America Motorworks. Not a bad price.
They also cover Corvette parts. If VW, there is also a good site that covers the wipers in full. Here’s the link:newkitman2013-09-13 08:22:33

I’m guessing that the wipers may not be wired correctly since I’m only getting 1 speed.I looked for a related message thread, but didn’t see any. Any info on what the correct wiring should be?

We addressed that issue at Carlisle last year when the ride home threatened rain. The wiper motors are inadequate at best. Make sure the two speed motor is wired correctly, meaning make sure you have both speeds, and run on High. Rain X is also a plus.

Mine is unbound (like a real TD ;)).
Years ago I bound a piece for the back package shelf (different car) using black duct tape. I folded it in thirds lengthwise so the looped edge was on top and the long, sticky-side-up extra third was underneath. Then I hand stitched it with a sail needle and black thread. It still looked pretty good 15 years… -

I had the same question . I asked home depot and they said to cut the carpet to the sizes I wanted, bring it back and they would have it bound the cost was small. As it turned out the piece of carpet was bound all the way around and between pushing edges under side panels and trim no raw edges. When I went over the hump by the shifter piece was…[Read more]
