February 15, 2012 at 8:27 pm #248392Of all the 7 going to Carlisle (so far because I hope more come), who is between Carlisle and Georgia besides Royal? Want to see if I can hook up on the way there and back.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackFebruary 15, 2012 at 9:12 pm #248393We’re just a few miles south of Carlisle (about an hour and a half, two hours, depending on the route). Would be keen to convoy up with you. There are also several Speedsters coming from that direction. If you want I’ll try to get you with Lane Anderson, who a so cool that my wife has confused him with Paul Mossberg, or vice-versa. I’d love to be part of a wild herd of these things galloping along the countryside.

February 20, 2012 at 10:30 am #248394The Karmann Ghia won’t make it out of the paint shop in time for Carlisle. But my wife and I are still going! We’ll be going in the Silverado. Next year I hope to be going in my newly assembled TD. I say hope because you just never know what’ll get done when all you have is a back yard to work in.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackFebruary 20, 2012 at 11:49 am #248395Allen, sorry to hear that your Ghia won’t be making the trip. But the good news is that you will still be there and will have that much more time to point out things that I should/could do to MiGi . MiGi’s engine is apart right now and I am putting her back together. No surprises so far except that a lot of my “tin” was missing or not installed correctly. I got what I need from my nearby VW junkyard so she’ll be good. Hope to get the engine rolling on the starter motor today. I figgered that would give it a good oil prime before I put in the spark plugs. eh?? Look forward to meeting you and your wife. Roy
February 20, 2012 at 11:50 am #248396Allen,
Did you register your Ghia already?
If not, do it. When you get there and check-in, just tell them the car was not ready yet. But you’re driving your truck and have supplies for the Speedster Owner Group club gathering.
You’ll received your sticker and will be able to enter the show grounds with your truck.
That gets you admission for all three days for you and your wife.
And there is always plenty of room to park, on the field, but away from the “show cars”

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackMarch 10, 2012 at 1:18 pm #248399Roy,
Thanks for asking.
My TD is still held hostage by the future ex-wife. I have not had access to it since February 2011.
It’s sitting with a bad engine, with a 1776 long block on the floor of the garage. The long block has been sitting for a couple months longer than the TD. And I’m concerned there may be internal corrosion that is going to mean the 1776 will need a rebuild before it has ever turned one rpm.
So…it’s looking unlikely.

March 18, 2012 at 3:25 pm #248400Well the car won’t be ready but I decided I’m going anyway. I need a long break and a road trip to this show will be just the ticket.
I know I’m a late comer but I had a glimmer of hope that my ride would be ready by then so I was holding out to see if I could drive her up. No such luck.
I’ll likely arrive sometime on Friday and would like to put some faces with names so if those already on the roster wouldn’t mind letting me know what you’re plans are I’d love to hook up.
I’m taking the following week to make my way back home so I’ll be in relax mode all weekend.
Anyone know of any hotels that just might have a space open?
Can’t wait
March 18, 2012 at 5:58 pm #248401Rocky, what will you be driving up? Maybe you can caravan with some club members.
I’m heading up Friday a.m. from Baltimore.
Look forward to meeting you.
March 18, 2012 at 7:14 pm #248402Rocky, We’re leaving from Warner Robins on the Thursday night after work and plan on arriving sometime around noon on Friday. perhaps we can meet somewhere along the route.

The Speedster Owners Group host hotel (Courtyard by Marriott in Mechanicsburg, PA) is fully booked for Friday and Saturday.
If anyone still needs a room for Friday
and/or Saturday nights there are several other hotels nearby in
Mechanicsburg: Country Inn and Suites, Hampton Inn, Homewood Suites and
the Comfort Inn. There is a block of rooms available at a reduced rate
at the Park Inn under the Speedster Owners Group.Paul Mossberg
